Peugeot Solidarity

Some discussion is going on both within our group and among others (see thread here:- http://libcom.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9869 ) On how best to offer Solidarity to the Ryton Peugeot workers. One suggestion is to picket local Peugeot dealers. Would people be interested in doing this over the next few weeks? Does anyone have any other ideas?

There has been some activity of this sort already in Coventry that has been organised by the peugot workers. A friend of mine went to a picket there last friday and spoke with workers and stewards about this and other actions. I'll find out more about plans to continue this and any other activity. There is also talk of some french rank and file peugot workers coming over to discuss with workers here and organising meetings on solidarity and perhaps on the general situation in France.

I'll find out more if I can and post any info.

Birmingham SolFed and West Midlands Anarchists are going to be picketing a Peugeot dealership (I think) next Saturday followed by a solidarity demonstration in Birmingham. They have invited us to either do a similar thing where we are or to go and join them in Brum.

Don't think I can make it myself, as I think I will be at a national SolFed conference. But it's something others may want to do.

If you dont organise a demo over there, please try and make it over to brum for ours, and we can sort out us lot coming over there one weekend.

Couldn't we do something when magnifico is around?

No reason we cant do something this weekend and next.

Will ask for support from Trades Council who meet tonight.

Likely clash next Saturday with Campaign against cuts meeting and activity this sat - how about anti-cuts actions in the morning, trip to Brum afternoon, Northampton peugeot picket following Sat?

Please send more info about activity planned in Brum this Saturday pm -N'pton TUC will circulate to contacts. TU delegate speculated after the meeting that ineffective union leadership might prefer to encourage pickets and demo's as substitute for action by Peugeot workforce at factory. Danger of dealership pickets being percieved as 'anti -French'.We have factory in nothampton that does mouldings for Peugeot -accounts for at least 1/3 of their work and possibly French owned (?) Bourbon Fabi on Round Spinney Ind. Est. - maybe leafleting/contacting workers here sometime next week would be more worthwhile?

As mentioned previously, French rank & file militants intend to visit - could develop themes of meeting(s) to discuss recent social activity in France.
