The new issue of Now or Never! will be unveiled at the London Anarchist Bookfair - Norwich anarchists have a stall, so make your way over and grab a copy hot of the press!

Well I paid my 37 pence and bought a copy on Saturday.

One thing worries me though - you tell us that James Borek is serving 54 moths for participating in an anti-capitalist demonstration.

Is this some fiendish new punishment devised by the most despicable minds of the prison service?

It would appear that this is the last time NOW or NEVER! is going to be published as a Norwich Anarchists paper. All ties have been cut so to speak.

I hope this wasn't a decision that we are going to regret....

Well it was a toss up between him and the guy that got 4 years for looking shifty!

Yes alas, NoN! and Norwich Anarchists have severed official ties cry . It wasn't an easy decision and it was certainly a controversial one. Providing we can still raise enough money and keep getting contributions of articles then you haven't seen the back of NoN! yet. Next deadline is 1st March 2006.

Unfourunately, up until now our bedroom antics are primarily made up of folding papers and trying to find nooks and crannies (no...don't be rude roll eyes ) to shove boxes of lighters, books and Cds in. However, once NA and NoN! have split their assets, I plan on taking half the shit round to some one elses house and rolling around my bedroom all day long. 8)

Hmmm....now I just need to find somewhere to off load all the NoN! stall stuff......

I'm kinda worried about how losing NoN! leaves us as a group - I was under the impression that the freesheet was gonna be a Norwich Anarchist publication, but apparently that's gonna be independant too. Do we need something to replace the paper? Although to be honest, with people from the group working on NoN!, a freesheet, Class War etc stuff, that's probably noy actually possible at the moment. I'm just concerned that it was such a big part of what we do as a group, and it's left a bit of a void - thoughts any one? Maybe we can put all our energies into the bookfair now....

I think we can start concentrating on building up the group on local campaigns as well as trying to welcome people in with talks and discussions. I think, if we can find a suitable venue we should be looking at doing similar (though not as stressful smile ) events to the bookfair.

Also, I think we should be asking anarchists (ex Solfed types, hippies etc.) that don't come to meetings what kind of things they think as a group we should be doing. I also was thinking it would be good to have something like CW conference - we sit down and work out what it is we want to concentrate on and then get on with it. I think as a group (when we're not all stressed about the bookfair!) it'll be good to have regular commitments to particular campaigns. And I think maybe having specific roles within the group may be useful. I think we need to get some new stickers together, promote ourselves a bit and start tackling local issues as an organisation, issues that people care about - Council Tax, being scared of youths, ASBOs, investment in communities. I think when we were "working on" the war we had a momentum and lots of interaction with the public.

Anyway, having rambled on - I think that to fill the void, we need to be doing pretty regular activities. I think if we can we should use the mainstream papers as our mouthpiece and try and build up some legitimacy for norwich anarchists. Doing press releases etc. I feel that we need to learn from our enemies - particularly the BNP. They tap into underlying racism, but there is also class anger in there that we should be playing on that and trying to push things in an anarchist direction.

Sorry for the incoherence of the post. Thought it was better to just get it out. Your comments and criticisms would be much appreciated.

With the newssheet - the intention was that it was independent and not affiliated in order to not alienate people from anarchist ideas by our title. (The number of people I've talked to about anarchism who've said - why not drop the title and get a new one is kind of ridiculous.)

I should have a box room in my new place so I'm sure there will be some room for NoN! stuff there wink I'll shut up now!

All brilliant ideas...but that's not really what I meant, I mean something that ties the group together, gives us a bit of an identity like NoN! did (whether or not people agreed with the identity it gave us wink ). I also think that judging by the amount of people (even NA 'members') regularly attending groups, whilst the idea of taking on all these issues is a good one, it's not really practicle or possible - I think we need to be a bit more realistic about our goals - we ae already stretched to breaking point with the bookfair etc. The student group seems really active - are they aware of the wider group? Could/would they be more involved? It's great they're doing stuff on campus, but it would be good if they also wanted to be further involved (or am I missing the point of a student group?). I think we need to concentrate on something that gives our group a face, both in activist circles and the wider community, and NoN! did that. Just because we are no longer linked to the paper doesn't mean we should forget about the role it filled, as I think the group is in danger of losing a common focus to hold it together.

I'm quite amused at the irony of discussing the future direction of NA on the NoN! thread!

I do think we need a big turnout at the next NA meeting to discuss where we're going as a group. Personally I prefer sorting things out face to face rather than on public forums. After all, what will be the attraction of becoming a NA member if you can get all the gossip of internal group bollocks on the internet! tongue

I've just been told a new venue is needed as the pub is now shut at 7 o'clock and the resident 'bouncer' who used to live there has moved out.
