Norwich’s Anarchist Bookfair
Norwich’s Anarchist Bookfair
Saturday June 12th 2004, we’re putting on Norwich’s first annual anarchist bookfair. Over the last few years Norwich (the land of Alan Partridge) has built up a good anarchist scene with several active radical groups in the area. Things are going in a good direction here and we thought it would be good to stage an event which would encourage groups from our region to network with national groups and create a more united anarchist movement. By having a bookfair it also gives groups the opportunity to present their ideas to local people who never go down to London for the bookfair there.
The venue is situated within a Victorian park estate, but please don’t let that put you off. As it is situated in a park we will provide an outside children’s space with adult supervision.
Stalls at the bookfair cost £15 for 120x75cm (for lightweights), £17.50 for 150x75 (for those going places) and £20 for 180x75cm (the revolutions only round the fucking corner!). There is a discount of £2.50 offered to each group that can provide a person to help out for an hour. Cheques must be made payable to ‘Norwich Anarchists’. We will not accept empty Special Brew cans as payment.
There will be entertainment in the evening, although this has yet to be arranged.
Overnight there will be a protest camp with a two fold aim. Reason 1. To stick two fingers up to the establishment. Reason 2. To provide sleeping space for loads of people so we don’t have sweaty anarchists clogging up our living room floors. So bring tents, unless you want to sleep under the stars like a child from the summer of love. To find out more contact us nearer the time.
We recommend people book as early as possible as we will allocate tables on a first come first served basis. We’ve already taken several bookings so get your skates on.

There will definitely be a gig/party in the evening but the details will not be released until the day, but it is going to be a CLASSIC!! 8)
The Wombles are going to give a couple a couple of talks, one on their general activities and one on the thessaloniki campaign. We've also got someone coming down from the Legal Defense Monitoring Group. Paul Gill's going to be playing some music as well. We'll try and keep people posted as more stuff is confirmed. Talking of which, if anybody wants to give a talk, chair a discussion, put on a video/projection, play some music etc. get in touch with us at norwichanarchists@hotmail.com

We had a Bookfair meeting the other night -
- SWP have asked for a stall and been denied (political party)

- There will be a talk on ID cards, Creative Campaigning (by Theatre of War - see http://www.theatreofwar.org/) in addition to Thessaloniki Prisoner Support talk, Legal Defence Monitoring Group talk, and other possibilities
- The program will be finalised only a few days before it happens with times and so on, so it's not too late to suggest new talks, music, workshops etc. contact us about any ideas.
- Foodwise, Ipswich Anarchists may be doing a Food Not Bombs, TBC, but we will have vegan burgers, cakes and fruit, as well as a drinks Tombola!
- There will be creche facilities with signing in and out of children, and a time limit of an hour and a quarter so people can go to talks, there are plans for creative activities - dressing up box, paper and paints, face paints, possibility of having children make prisoner support cards etc.
We will be having another meeting in a week's time. If you have any suggestions or things you want brought up at that meeting, reply to this forum or send e-mail to norwichanarchists@hotmail.com
I'll be adding updates to this post as they come.
