I wouldn't like to say, I'm not involved but those who are are there at the moment and they haven't got t'internet sorted yet (and I'm sure when they do they'll be to busy to piss about on forums anyway!).
As far as I can tell, they're just turning an empty unused building into a nice space in the centre of town for people to use for gigs, workshops, film showings and meetings. There's also a libary of anarchist literature, and I'm sure there are other exciting plans afoot. I can't see why anyone would have a problem with that *remembers where she is*

AFAIK....The properety developers tried to board them all in on Sunday might, even the front door, when there where kids inside, with the full consent of the police. Since then it's calmed down a bit but they're having to keep a pretty close eye on the contractors and their hammers and the cops etc. Think it's calmed down a bit but they need as many people as possible down there to help do shifts etc.

It does seem weird that people are clamouring to make sarcastic comments before they even know who’s involved or why or what the aim is. Even revol usually tries to get a picture of what’s going on before he has a go.

Well, unforunately there's not even a place for people to make sarcastic comments about anymore, as the social centre was shut down this morning. It didn't adhere to fire regulations, apparently.

Same thing in Dublin. In fairness though its not acceptable to run a fire-trap just because you're an anarchist. If the worst happened you could lose the entire movement in one night.

Yeah, I agree and although I'm sure at least some of what the Police and Fire Department were feeding us was bullshit, I do think that building was definately unsafe. A couple of people were a little suspicious though, because a previous attempt to create a social centre had also been shut down due to fire regulations.
Please tell me that's not the official name they're going with!
