that is refreshingly honest

Yeah, that quote was insane. There were some other beautiful quotes in the article about that story in the Dominion Post yesterday, with Greg O'Connor (Police Association President) and Howard Broad (Police Commissioner) whining about "middle class liberals" and shit. Refreshingly honest indeed!
They are currently trialing tasers for 12 months, in Auckland and Wellington only AFAIK. While we were shutting down a weapons conference last week some people spotted tasers sitting in the cop cars. Basically, the tasers are mounted in all cop cars in Welly and Auck and it is up to police discretion when they are used.
They have been pulled out and pointed a few times, and at least 1 person has already been tasered...
Cops over here have had capsicum spray for several years now, maybe around a decade?
All cops have access to guns at the station, but in general most cops don't carry them and only get them when "needed" (Diplomatic Protection Squad and Armed Offenders Squad are exceptions to this).
They can get you from further away. If you watch the anti tazer groups video it shows footage of US cops using them, in totally unecessary ways.
A guy I used to live with is a cop now, he cant wait to get a tazer, reakons 'people have too many rights, especially the scum' sigh, maybe NZ police have an honesty policy now or something.

That's amazing. In Australia all cops have their guns in their holsters on their belts at all times. Except when they take them out to shoot civilians, of course.

How do I go about getting the cops in the U.S. to be so nice?
Quote:
I'd definately rather be sprayed than tasered, thats for sure. Neither would be nice tooActually I just remembered the first episode of 'Jackass' where Johny Knoxvile got hit by both. I think he prefered tazer so NZ cops might be doing a community service.

Jonny knoxville has a very different mental attitude and pain tolerance to most people tho - whilst he can dea with the sheer pain of electrocution, he is probably bothered by unconventionality of the pepper spray.
I'd rather have trouble with my eyes for hours than get electrocuted in the chest or neck.
BTW - if we're talking pepper spray. If we are talking CS gas and all the evil shit the US cops use...
God knows.
So whats actually happening with this tazer thing? Are cops getting them or not?
Also president of police association says;
"We are the coercive arm of the state that must be able to impose the will of the state on those who would thumb their noses at the laws," he said. "We must have the power and ability to do that."

Good to know cops know what their job is and dont think they're helping the population i guess.
