There is a demo today in London:

yeah what the ghost said
Following the union ballot in which the majority of votes returned opposed taking industrial action ()... If it was my union I'd be seriously pissed.
Do you think the vote against strike action was an expression of how pissed off the workers are with the union? Maybe they didn't want to be led into a series of meaningless one-day actions? Workers not voting to strike behind the unions can sometimes be a good thing, in that it expresses a weakening of the union's control over the workers. What do you think?
Beltov.
I think it is more likely:
1. They do not want to lose any pay, when they are going to lose their jobs as well
2. They did not think strikes could save the plant
3. In the longer term an all-out strike could have buggered up any redundancy payments
Beltov - I mean't if I was a worker, I'd be pissed off with my union. Sorry if that wasn't clear, or if I've misunderstood your post.
Only speculating, but I think it's probably true the workers don't want to loose their redundancy payout.
But like I said, a million quid wasted by the unions is a lot of money that could have set up a healthy strike fund. I don't see that the workers have an awful lot to loose. Don't forget, the French workers said they'd come out in solidarity.
It's true that not voting to strike behind the unions can be a good thing, but unless the Ryton workers are going to organise for themselves, it's something of a moot point.
To be truthful, I'm not actually sure what the workers are pushing for with the demo today, in terms of practical measures to keep their jobs. Gotta have a look at the union websites....

Yeah, calling for a boycott is OK in itself, but in practical terms ain't gonna do jack.
We (West Midlands Anarchists, and the local SolFed) have been pretty active in opposing the plant closure in the Midlands.
Following the union ballot in which the majority of votes returned opposed taking industrial action (
), the fucking unions went ahead and wasted fully 1 million quid on an advertising campaign telling people to boycott Peugeot.
Aside from the fact that anyone looking to buy a new car will take into account; price, fuel-economy, looks, tax cost etc etc way before their views on company management when making their decision on what to buy, that million quid could have set up a healthy strike fund (if the workers had wanted it), or even been divied up among the 2500 workers who are about to loose their jobs.
Fucking crazy that the hard-earned union dues of workers should go straight into the bulging pockets of news-paper owners and ad-agency execs. If it was my union I'd be seriously pissed.
