Did I ever mention how much I love my other union CUPW.
A couple of times in the last 2 years postal workers here have refused to deliver British nationalist party leaflets. We covered it in news but i cant find the stories. I've heard this from a postal source...
Some of our members have been attacked in the past when delivering BNP leaflets so we have a bit of a conscience clause that means we don't have to handle them but the responsibility is on management to find someone, as opposed to us having to find someone. It's one of the few areas where a postal worker can have a bit of control over management.
I'm pretty sure it's what is called unadressed admail, or just plain old flyers. If it was addressed and put in an envelope no postie would no know, but this was a mass flyering of a particular neighbourhood.
thanks, EW! the issue i was worried about did end up coming up (though i knew most of the people would've been delighted to hear about it anyway), and that helped a lot

my mate is a postie and he of course refused to carry the BNP leaflets, and so did about half of the posties. The other half seem to vote BNP, so that was a bit of a cause for tension there! It would be good to hear some grassroots comments on how this delivery boycott went in different centres.
I'm a postie in South Wales and we get to deliver the leaflets for all the candidates at general elections and local elections. Because one of my mates refused to handle them management wanted to suspend him which, obvioulsy, could have led to a whole walk out of postal workers.

was he the only one refusing to deliver them in your office or was it a collective refusal?

Ah that's excellent!
I guess we didn't transfer the UK story yet, we covered Swedish postal workers blacking fascists here.

i'm just curious - was the pamphlet being distributed randomly to people who hadnt specifically asked for it, or was it being sent to people who were part of that church or whatever?
not that it matters too much to me either way, i think it's pretty damned neat
)
but i mentioned this on another messageboard... wanna have my facts straight if somebody starts arguing.
