Considering moving to NYC to participate in OWS

Hi!

I was considering moving to NYC at least temporarily to participate. Occupying full-time seemed a lot more feasible last fall when there was a camp that provided meals. Do you know if there is a safe place for occupiers to sleep now and is any free food provided?

Thanks!

Isn't there any political activity you can do closer to home? Where are you now? What are the reasons you think doing this would be a good idea?

I would agree with Bulmer. I would bet that there is organizing going on in your own town that's could really use some committed people. You can probably be a lot more helpful based in a community where you have roots and a network of friends and family than in a community where you know nobody.

I and others be glad to help you out if you decide to come to NYC. But like the above posters said, it is usually the best bet to fight where you are and on the terrain you're familiar with. I know there were something like 600 occupy protests across the country last fall. Were there any in your town/city?

To be honest, this is a fucked up city where almost everyone I know is just getting by on student loans or working one, two or three jobs to pay rent. It is a really tough place to transplant to.

The encampment has shifted from Zucotti to Union Square now. Occupiers have tried several times to hold the park overnight, but the pigs are dead set on enforcing the 1am curfew - a curfew that has NEVER been enforced before. So, no, there is no really safe place to settle as far as I know. I also don't think the food operations are functioning like they did previously.

If it was relatively easy to drift over to downtown Manhattan last year and live the occupation it would certainly be much harder to do now.

Sorry if that bursts your bubble! Maybe things will change soon, but I dunno.
