Who works in the education sector in any way or form?

I was looking at:

http://www.ewn.org.uk/

and subscribed to the email list. Looks quiet at the moment smile

I'm a youth worker involved in community and informal education. Do I count? I think I'm sort of stuck in between various industries (I'm employed by a media company). Ahhhhhh.

I work in an Education related resource centre and do some volunteer adult education teaching. A lot of anarchist types end up in education, one way or another.

i feel for you mate. The fucking students are back today IN DROVES! Masses of them!

Whats your union as admin staff? In our uni some are in unison, some in AUT. Like myself, i'm in AUT eventhough i am not a teacher or researcher, but in the "academic related support staff". Very confusing...

when I was in the uni library I was in unison, but some were in amicus and the professional librarians were AUT. Most of them were none, can't blame them really as there was next to zero campus representation and any reps were management.

yeah, we have the management in AUT as well - which was quite funny because when we had the strike, they went out as well grin

And my boss didn't even report us, so we got to have the strike action and we didn't even lose any pay 8)

But it does create some really weird situations as well...

We have four unions on campus - goes to show the maddness of the job based unionism. But it might take a while before this place is under one industrial union grin

hey, my mum's not a teacher foo' Mr. T she's a computer programmer in education though. that's what having a degree in biology gets you apparently, so clearly once i have my degree i'll be working in the russian arts industry or something. as i'm a student, presumably that means i work in the education sector too, reproducing abstract labour or whatever the fancy marxist term is...

The SolFed take on the Education Workers Network is it's for anyone who works in the sector from lecturers/teachers to cleaners/porters and including admin staff and students.

As far as I know. My partner's in EWN so I'll ask her tonight. The guy who did the website is in Manchester SF so I'll give him a shout as well.

I've thought of joining the EWN many times, but I thought it was a condition that you had to want to create an anarcho-syndicalist union in eductaion?

well mate, if you have a look around, i think we can safely say we can cross that bridge when we get there and rather just create networks discussing the current pressing issues in the industries we work in and the unions which are "representing" us wink

...not that i know anything about the nature of this network...

That's better than what my degree in biology got me - I'm a librarian in the financial sector. sad I have worked in education before, and it was much more interesting but even less well paid.

I just thought that as I'm an anarcho council communist they wouldn't want me in.

behold the absurdity of claiming to be an actual anarcho council communist or anarcho syndicalism, instead of grasping them as historical movements from which we can draw valuable lessons from.

And im sorry but council communism is really just anarcho syndicalism for slow learners, as their actual expression in Germany and Holland can testify to.

The lesson I learnt from history was that permanent organisations of the working class that seek to negotiate with the bosses inevitably end up on the other side of the fence.
