Emergency Appeal – Funds Needed Immediately for IWW Truckers

PayPal: http://www.iww.org/unions/dept500/iu530

As many of you know the IWW has been organizing Truck Drivers in Eastern North Carolina and Virginia for much of the past year. In response to our growing power and planned founding convention this upcoming weekend, the bosses have begun firing the union's leadership. Two log drivers and five container haulers have lost their job over the past two days.

The union is already discussing legal and direct action means to fight these unjust firing, but right now we need funds to support our fired drivers.
These drivers have families to support and this is a part of the country where economic opportunities are very limited. Please offer whatever you can, drivers are counting on you.

Checks can be sent to the Freight Truckers Organizing Committee at
PO Box 274, Waukegan, IL 60079. Please include "emergency relief" in the memo line.

"Discussing legal and direct action means to fight these unjust firings"

This happens almost every time the IWW tries to organize. Should not there have been a plan of action before this happened? The corporate retaliation is fairly predictable. And if you don't have the numbers to defend yourselves, is it wise to have a coming out party?

I know this sounds overly critical when people are suffering, but I am tired of seeing the same mistakes made over and over.

It's presumptuous to assume that "discussing" in this case means scrambling about without any plan. To me, that means that there are a variety of strategies at work that are

  • too complicated/in depth to discuss in random forums
  • of a sensitive nature and should not be on a public forum where company goons are possibly trolling
  • not specifically any of your business, as internet personalities will just come out of the woodwork to criticize and distract from the actual organizing on the ground.

or maybe your right, they are adventurist bozos playing at organizing.

But why assume?
