Workers at a Hotel in Leeds are today discussing what action they can take in order to secure payment of wages that should have been paid on the 31st January but are still unpaid. If anyone in SolFed, AF or IWW wants to get involved can you send me a PM. I'm one of the workers (an ex SolFed member) and a current IWW member.
There's a Leeds AF and a West Yorks SF, I'm sure both will be willing to help.
There's a workplace organiser training in Leeds on Saturday!

I'll drop along to that...presuming that it is the one at the Space Project?
Update
We spoke to one of the company directors today. He says that we will be paid a % of what we are owed tomorrow and the rest next week. We have decided to give him until tomorrow afternoon for some money to be in our bank accounts. If money is not paid I suspect that people will walk off the job.
Current situation is that we allegedly will receive a cheque with an initial payment of £500 tomorrow...we are waiting to see if they arrive (and don't bounce)...one of my workmates told the director that we would all walk out tomorrow if we didn't get some money...I'm thinking that this threat may have finally got things moving...the hotel would lose thousands if we walk out over the weekend and their is no way the General Manager could keep it open without us...
Well that sounds all very exciting. If y'all do walk, make sure you've got folks willing to come down to the picket line to beef up the numbers.

I'm not sure where the training is being held, what I would say is to speak to one of the organisers before popping in. It's a pretty intense, structured 8 hour training with limited spaces. If you're coming, we've got to budget for food and supplies. (That's not meant to discourage you from attending, btw, just please do let us know first).
pissedoffin, what you describe sounds just like a possible insolvency. It's often unpaid wages that force companies to call in the Administrators (like Portsmouth Football Club, for instance).
If you can, get cash not cheques. I've seen this before, where directors owe employees, the tax man, suppliers, everyone really, and they carry on writing cheques right up to the minute when the bank says no more overdraft.
Not to worry you unduly but it sounds like your employer might be heading for insolvency - there is a process to go through, post on here if that happens, I'm quite happy to go through it with you, though pm me as well as I sometimes don't check the boards for a while, but I get emails when someone pms me.
pissedoffin, I think you've been sent my email address but I'm on here as well if you want to PM me. At any rate I'm one of a few people here in Leeds happy to offer support where needed.
Update
We received a cheque today for part of the wages owed and are waiting to see if they clear. We have been promised the rest next week. If they bounce the plan is to call a staff meeting and I am 99% certain that nearly everyone will walk out in protest/wildcat strike...
On a positive note it has brought the workforce together in a way that will make things harder for management in the future...
