IWW British Isles website gets a facelift

Just in case you've not seen it yet, the IWW's website for the British Isles has been thoroughly jazzed up. View it at www.iww.org.uk

very good indeed! Massive improvement. The text is too much in your face IMO, but the increased use of graphics is good.

awww, my banner is gone sad

Cheeky. grin

To be fair, I notice that there's no link to the IWW from the SolFed website either.

Ah, i've just thought you (IWW) couldn't have a link to a anti/political sect.

What? Not even the AF? eek

I'm with you on the disclaimer, it looks like it's just a national thing, according to the website...

Perhaps they think the FAU is a union, which is kind of excusable, since it's got "Union" in its name. Although "Union" is not German for "union." wink

Hurrah for Bay Area Wobs!

If anyone's still not had a look at the new site yet, go and have a gander. It's coming along really nicely with loads of rolling news updates and it's chockablock with info.

Hope you dont mind if i criticise a little:

- i think the image is far too big, the one no is meant to know about, it needs to be a lot less long, and maybe a bit narrower. Also put a border on it wink

- Maybe the whole site would benefit from some white space around it? Give it a margin. Its a bit wide imo for the amount of info on there. Harder on the eye like it is. Maybe consider putting a thin red border around all the page content.

- Along the banner image at the top I would consider using some opacity on it.

- For the links along the top under 'about the iww' i would put in some dividers between them like - or | just to make it clearer.

Otherwise i like it!

On my own behalf, and for all those who contributed to the new site, thanks, comrades and fellow workers cool

The picture of bay area wobs on the home page was just too perfect not to use. Have any of you noticed the similarity between the wobbly whose face is immediately above the cat on the banner, and the wobbly in the famous IWW poster to the left of the word "welcome"? I felt I'd found him at last. And anyway:

1. I did put a caption under the picture crediting US wobblies for their excellent campaign, and...

2. What does it matter? Workers have no country! beardiest

Thanks for the suggestions, rkn - I think you may be right about the menu option separators. As for the picture being too big, the thing is that it's not actually a fixed size: it's size actually depends on the size of your browser window. Do you, by any chance, have a non-3x4 'wide format' screen? I do too, and they certainly make this picture big. Oh yes.

But then, we are One Big Union... groucho

(Cries of "boo, resign, plonker" etc: exit stage left)

ah yes i do. That is very odd - a scalable image like that in the centre of the page!

If i were you i would cut the site down to around 600px fixed width, it looks a lot better like that imo. The design doesnt seem to fit scalable pages. If i narrow my window to around 1/3 of my screen it looks a lot better.

Only my opinion mind wink
