New Deal - avoiding job club + mandatory schemes

Submitted by RenzoNovatore on 12 September, 2007 - 17:25.

Ok, I've been on the rock n' roll a little over a year now, they could have put me on New Deal after 6 months I think, but bcos I was doing a part-time education course (writing up a PhD) they presumably didn't.

though now they have, and last time he said about doing the job club, the madatory nature, that the alternatives are work trial (ie work full time for a tenner extra), etc.

I managed to get out of this by saying im conditional bail - which I am signing 3 days, and I could also say somehting about trips to see my phd supervisors.

But ultimately, I dont want to be painting fences of r10 quid extra a week, or spending 9am - 3pm 5 days a week for 12 weeks with people who cant read and write.

So any real word experiences/tips on avoiding this?

Please, try to avoid the overwhelming desire to reply 'GET A JOB?'

you do realise this is an anarchist website right, so describing the casually employed as ''people who can't read and write'' while writing up a phd is pretty much guarenteed to get peoples backs up and vastly decreases the possibility of you getting any constructive reponses.

That said the alternatives are do a little temping for a few weeks and make very little effort,. Or of course, you could indeed, stop being such a snob and just go and get a job.

As can'tdo says, just sign up with an agency, do a few weeks work and then when they (innevitably) sack you, your claim restarts. I'm sure most agencies will snap you up with your qualifications, especially since you can read and write and everything.

you could always get a job teaching the poor bastards to read and write ya fucking tosser angry

Simplest way to avoid new deal is to get off the dole, if you find that associating with people who can't read and write is below you you could always dissapear up your own arse for a couple of months.
On a side note if you don't want to get a job then ypu could always go to your doctor and claim to be depressed/alcoholic/suffering from back pain or all three and go on the sick. More money and less hassle.

LOL!

I'd love to be painting fences on a day like this, beats trying to avoid inevitable admin work by hiding on here.

Why dont you indulge your intellectual prowess and get a job as a lecturer, thats what most reclusive, patronising, anti-social students who cant face reality end up doing. That way you can get paid for spouting endless bollocks about the great unwashed.

Of course we're jealous, and with the...unique mental capacity you've demonstrated on this thread, who can blame us.

I totally agree with your criticisms. I have been through the 'Raw Deal' wringer a year ago, and I'm not looking to go through it ever again.

I also realise that this is a massive bump, however I hope to provide answers for people in our situation.

I was about to be drafted into Raw Deal again, but I didn't turn up. Like you, I don't want to grouped with illiterates and chavs. Nor do I want to be put on another work placement where I work for shitty dole money that, even with the £15 extra, is still well below minimum hourly wage.

Like you, I've been looking for a way to avoid Raw Deal, and I've found some answers:

Here, it says:

Quote:
If you leave New Deal, but find that you have to make a claim for JSA again within 13 weeks, you will join New Deal again at the point you left it.

And here, it says:

Quote:
A person is defined as leaving new deal for young people and new deal 25 plus to sustained employment if they do not return to claim jobseeker’s allowance within 13 weeks.

So it seems that the general consensus is: wait 14 weeks after your sign-off date and then reapply!

However, according to this, it seems that if we skip too many of these Raw Deal courses in a row, we'll get stuck with a six month sanction, making it near impossible to claim anything.
