Radio libertaire
I occasionally listen to Radio Libertaire to remind myself how bad my French is. The thing is RL has been going for 25 years and I know that it was in part made possible by a very different broadcasting regime than that in the UK, but I wonder how realistic it would be to work towards an internet-based anarchist radio station in English..... as far as I know someone may already be working on this.
Also RL has launched an appeal for funds to support its work. Perhaps Libcom could publicise this. We've got to have a hatfull of francophones on these boards..... Jef, what do you think? Anyone else?
Where's that Jef when you need him?
RL is a broadcast station, but I think that you can only get it on your radio near to Paris. I listen to it online from a link here:

This morning there was some really good folk music on and a discussion about the Middle East...... when I concentrate I can usually understand most of it! I am getting better.
They do a weekly blues slot, and often have on singers of chansons
And this morning a feature on organic food and diet! Fantastic! The kind of stuff that would have people on here like Madashell accusing me of advocating subsistence farming!
Okay, I think that you can become a friend of RL and contribute €5, more or less to support the station. If I understand the presenter correctly this can be achieved by visiting the website of the French Anarchist Federation. Of course he might have been talking about the price of eggs!
Does anyone know what their listening figures are? Both online and offline?
Well, there's me!
Where's that Jef when you need him?
right here, not knowing anything

AFAIK it broadcasts for limited periods of time, I thought it was only for a couple of hours a week.
This is the RSS feed, dunno how these work tho

It's a pretty full schedule on line Jef, good stuff from morning until night. Have you visited the website? Try searching for Le Monde Libertaire if Radio Libertaire gives you no joy.
I know they are one of the few radio stations to have a regular broadcast in Esperanto...
...which reminds me to actually listen to it
I used your link bnrn, I meant to subscribe to the newspaper but kept forgetting. Need to go back to the anarchist bookshop and not leave in disgust upon seeing dreadlocked blackshirts outside with dogs
plus need to go to the CNT offices. Is it the Vignolles one that is bad or the other one?
I did a Radio Libertaire interview about 20 years ago. They have a proper radio studio and it's all very profesh... none of this transmitting out of someone's spare bedroom malarky. Then, it was running 24 hours a day and the guy I spoke to reckoned it had about 20,000 listeners. This listenership wasn't necesarily all made up of anarchists but included people who either liked the varied content or had an interest in some part of the diverse schedule. Dunno what the listenership is today.
It's not all anarchist stuff, they lease out bits of the schedule to other community groups. I remember there being a chinese language show and an English language Irish programme. The Esperanto slot is done by SAT-amikaro members.
Radio Libertaire a besoin de soutien financier
I wonder if Libcom could do anything to help. Anyone got any ideas how we might support RL financially or otherwise? My French isn't up to contacting them I'm afraid. Perhaps an article about RL on here would be a good way to introduce people to the existence of the project.
Is it the Vignolles one that is bad or the other one?
Vignolles is the big, scary one.
Also interesting, if you go to the vignolles office, you can visit the office of the 'Exterior Region' of the CNTE, in the same building.

ooh. Can you tell us a bit more about RL? Is t an actual radio station not an online one - and if so where does it broadcast in france?
what impact has it had? Any info would be interesting.
There's the Under The pavement radio show in... manchester? Not sure agin what that is like, not sure if its online or a radio station proper.
Indymedia used to have a show on Resonance FM which was good.
A couple of years ago it was thought that developments in Digital radio would leave the FM band completely empty/free to independents. I don't know what this actually means though or what became of it.
