Pardon my ignorance but who are the IWW?
In areas of employment such as retail and fast food, wildcat strikes can be highly effective, firstly because of the fact that few of the organisations have unions to speak for them (and if they do they tend to have an even closer relationship to the bosses than public sector unions) and secondly a strike without notice or forwarning can hit these companies and the commodity system square in the face.
Vene, check out www.iww.org
iww, the wobblies, are a direct action union based on principles of direct democracy, workers control, grassroots empowerment etc, all kind of good things
Something wrong here, I've started a new thraad. My posting was supposed to be part of the "A Starbucks Goes Wobbly" thread. So there's more to this exchange than what's here. I'm not au fait with this IT stuff. Could a missing indefinite article have caused this?
Re Van Fan's "What's this IWW then?" Is this a way of getting in a plug for the One Big Union (pocket size)? I'm all for it, as long as we don't get accused of trying to take over the forum. Anyway the information can be found elsewhere on the net for those who seek the light.

Yeah, really do check it out.
Oldgit - you clicked " post new topic" instead of "post reply".
Don't worry about it, it happens to us all every once in a while
Mea culpa then. Senility strikes again.
Yeah, i read this yesterday on the IWW website. These anti-union businesses are only kicking themselves in the arse by making radical unions a good idea for the workers. My mate that works at McDonalds was talking about a wildcat strike they were thinking about just the other day. We could be looking at a new big support base for the IWW, do you think?
