Tea Break - newsletter of libcom.org users for the public sector pay dispute

Submitted by Ed on 15 July, 2008 - 10:19.

Alright all, us lot at libcom decided in the end that it would be worth putting together another newsletter for this years pay disputes and this is what weàve come up with. If your local group wants to help distribute it then that would be great. We made it two sides of A4 to make it as easy as possible to print off. Feedback, critique and pisstakes always welcome.. enjoy!

Good stuff, one small criticism though, justified text renders some of it nigh unreadable, especially for spackers like me. I had to read "Voteforindustrialactionwherepossible" about three or four times wink

I'm off on Wednesday, so I'll distribute at picket lines if I can get enough printed in time to make it worthwhile.

Oh shit, spent hours trying to sort all those, must be the one i missed, sorry.

the text was also too close to the borders - so when I printed it it missed out 1 or 2 letters on both the right and left of the page - not sure if that's because I printed it off wrongly?

i thought the content/style were both very good, though, by the way

As per what mads said on the one hard to read bit which sounds a bit like that Prince song title. wink

Otherwise, good clear stuff. And i love the title. Love it. I know names should not be so important but branding is vital in a capitalist society. smile

Interesting. Thanks for doing it. News we don't usually get here. I've passed it along to others here in the US.

Should this be hosted on the front page of the site somewhere?

we probably should yeah...

Tea Break is great - I distro'd it at the Manchester rally and picket line today and loads of people seemed to like the name and the general look of it. It was pissing it down like it was, well, Manchester though and there weren't as many people there as I thought there'd be.

Nice one Jenni! Glad to hear they got distro'd up north.. smile

i like it, from thousands of miles away in the u.s. "take control of the strike" ... "not by appealing to the union leadership" ... all good stuff.
i posted a song in solidarity with the mail workers ...

here's a little song in solidarity. sadly i can't figure out how to embed it on this thing, because html is not working properly in it, and if you simply click this link it won't work, since they don't accept redirection from other urls. so just copy and paste this into your address bar or right-click/option-click to download the file and then it'll come up. if anyone can figure out how to embed this file or otherwise make it easier to access please do!

here's the lyrics:
you don't need a union bureaucrat to tell you what to do
take it over for yourselves and run your workplace with your crew
you know that if you got together you would all pull thru
and run it better than the bosses could ever hope to do.
why strike just til the money gods decide to cut you a little slack
when you could strike until you take control and get your whole lives back!
get your labor ready kids, man power's up at bat;
don't let the scabs get past your picket, make a fierce wild cat.
everybody get together
learn to communicate
keep the power in your own hands,
organize and agitate.
because you deserve to make a life, a life with dignity
don't let them make you make them a living almost for free.
no, you don't need a union bureaucrat to tell you what to do
take it over for yourselves and run your workplace with your crew
you know that if you got together you would all pull thru
and run it better than the bosses could ever hope to do.
