Its the only radical group in my area, is it any good?
the what?
socialist party of the USA
I don't know much about them other than they are a democratic socialist/social democratic party that runs candidates. I think they might be multitendencied to some degree, as in, I've heard they had a 'Red & Black Direct Action' faction or something like that.
They have some members in the IWW, at least in some parts of the South. Of course, historically, a lot of early IWWes were SP, until they were expelled for basically being too much for direct action over electoralism.
Other than that I don't know much more about them. Most people on this site, including myself, have vastly different politics than them, but if you're in an area where they are the only game in town, I imagine working with them on some basis is what you'd have to do.
Here are their principles;

If anarchism is your deal, theory/tactic wise they are shooting a bit wide of the mark & into the authoritarian lefty zone. They include a section called Democratic Revolution From Below which is vague enough for any left libertarian to agree with save perhaps the nod to strict non-violence they've included.
However, they seem mostly focused on getting their people elected to various public offices, and have a section in their principles justifying this waste of time. . .
You never know what the local group is gonna look like, and so the possibility that they could up to some horizontal organizing at a workplace or something is always there, maybe some good contacts as well. You wouldn't need to become a party-person to offer some solidarity and energy.
