Unionising initiative among security guards in Israel

I figured it's time to get the word out, since it seems to be invisible on the international level: after the security guards contracted to Weizmann Institute of Science managed to unionize and to force the institute to meet their demands (which apparently had to do with basic conditions denied to them), their colleagues contracted to Kaplan Medical Center and to Soreq Nuclear Research Center followed suit. There are potential drives among security guards in other places in the Rehovot area, as well.

In order to raise their visibility, the head of the Kaplan union decided to organize a football (not American, you yanks) tournament between the various guard unions, and managed to get a stadium and some equipment from the Rehovot municipality for that purpose. I think he's also going to try and get some sponsors (thus possibly getting co-opted :-/).

Everything I've managed to find about it online is written in Hebrew, and even that's not much. I'll post more as things progress.

we'll be happy to get as much support as possible from people that will show up and take part in our struggle.

I think people on this board (myself included, obviously) would be interested in hearing more about how the committee came about, how it is run, and what it has managed to accomplish. Where did the initiative come from? How did you become the chairman? Can you be recalled at any moment if the members disapprove of your actions? How have things improved for the security guards at Kaplan since the committee was set up?

And on a note related to security guards, we have a news article here about staff in Guernsey who won union recognition after a wildcat strike earlier this week.

That and other security industry news is on libcom here:
