Unionizing In America: Boulder, Colorado

Hi Everyone,

I am new to the libcom community, but have been a long time propagator and supporter of workers rights. I am currently 21 and living in the United States and would like to start a union at my work, and eventually collectivize it. I work for a grocery store corporation called Sunflower Farmers Market, a natural grocery chain that promotes "health" food, and personifies itself as "all natural" and "organic", however this mentality breaks when it comes to treating their workers properly. Recently our rights to have personal items, this includes water at our stations, revoker, our wages caped, and our customer service "regulated". The truth is that everyday new rules are created in contradiction to old ones, that employees are not making fair wages//benefits in comparison to other stores, that are even more corporate. Recently our CEO was jailed for child prostitution, which gives me little confidence in our management and their roles as bosses. In conclusion, my main concern is to what strategies, resources or tools would be most useful when unionizing my job?

Thank You,

A.

I'd start here. You don't have to be a member to attend a training, either.

Quote:
The IWW offers a range of trainings for workers who want to learn how to organize in their industry:

To schedule an Organizer Training, please contact:

Phone - (408) 892-8787
E-mail - organize [at] iww.org

Have you checked out the workplace organising page on libcom? There's a lot of pretty good info on there. It covers a lot of the basics.

I would second the IWW organizer training as well, I've heard nothing but positive things about it.

Good luck!
