Quite vague story on indymedia here: http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2009/10/440773.html

Anyone got any more information? Or involved in any other occupations?

This is very much a live issue. Occupations kicked off in Vienna on Thursday last week, the main thrust behind this is a cluster of worker-student groups demanding "free and emancipatory education for all". One of the main causes of anger is the Bolgna process of reforms (more info available on emancipating-education-for-all.org website link).

Occupations have now spread across Austria, and now into Croatia and Serbia:

On Tuesday "-------- Breaking News ------ University Vienna (Austria) is occupied. University Graz (Austria) is occupied. University Klagenfurt (Austria) is occupied. University Linz (Austria) is occupied. Academy Fine Art Vienna (Austria) is occupied. Technic University Graz (Austria) is occupied. Technic University Vienna (Austria) is occupied"

5 hours ago a message went out "More than 40.000 people protested in support of the occupations and for Free public Education in Vienna (Austria) tonight!!"

Yesterday there was a march from the main University building around Vienna, I was there and there were tons of people. One of the main lecture buldings is being occupied last time I went, and lectures in those buldings were cancelled the majority of this week due to the occupation.

Here is a livestream link:

the broadcast times are somewhat random but if you catch it when they are broadcasting and understand German its great to watch.

I wonder if this is going to go anywhere; it sure looks promising at the moment.

hi, are you a student there? Or just a supporter?

Either way, if you could please keep us updated with any developments, your opinions, etc we would really appreciate it! Do any other Austrians post here?
