Text blast/communications

I'm looking into setting up a text blast service to use for informing people about SolNet actions. It seems like SMS is the great communications equalizer. Has anyone used any of the services (for SolNet or otherwise)? It looks like it might be possible to do it for free, but a yearly subscription can be had for around $10.

I'm looking at:
http://text4freeonline.com/en
http://www.frontlinesms.com/ (This is a freestanding program designed for NGOs. Looks a little more complicated.)

Lots of other options out there.

I used to just keep a list of the email address equivalent of people's cell numbers (e.g. 5555555555@vtext.com) and send a mass bcc email.

Anyway I'd caution people about relying on mass texting or any other mass communication for mobilizing. It works so much better to individually ask people if they can come. Mass texts are great for reminders though.

Yeah, that's a good point.
