Does anyone know of any derelict housing estates in London that are good for exploring? I'm feeling a bit adventurous.

ps - does anyone know what happened to the Use Your Loaf social centre in Deptford?

pps - apparently Deptford once had one of the largest anarchist groups in the country: around 100 members towards the end of the 19th century.

what do you mean by derelict? There are places that have had decades of under investment, but there's nowhere that's empty and not lived in.

It was evicted a year or so ago. At least one of the main people involved is on this board smile Because the Pepys estate blocks had been cleared at around the same time there was a surge in local squats and the collective have so far been unable to find a suitable alternative.

Yes, this is mentioned in the Quail book and I believe Kate Sharpley was in the same group before the first world war, however we've never really managed to find out much more. There has been a continuous anarchist organisation in the area since 1986 when Deptford DAM was established.

They look really interesting. There's some really fucking ugly estates around Peckham and Elephant and Castle. But despite their ugliness I reckon they're amazing structures. It would just be interesting to look all around them.

I heard there was a derelict estate on the Greenwich/Deptford borders where the Mike Leigh film 'All or nothing' was filmed. But that was in a pamphlet published in '04 so it might be posh flats by now.

If it's where i think it is, it is now a Bellway building site between Creek St and Greenwich Station. There are loads of estates that are being demolished but they are usually squatted or completely empty with security. If you want an horrible estate to visit i can recomend Ferrier Estate, Kidbrooke(all due for demolish sometime this century, some has evn been knocked down) and the Thamesmead (esp. the oldest development near the lake {area 2[?]} where The Clockwork Orange was filmed shortly after it was opened as the film's protagonists home. 21st century urban decay instantly created tongue )
