Bristol Screening of Animal Liberation Documentary

'Behind The Mask' is a major new film about the Animal Liberation movement. Combining real footage of demos and ALF actions, interspersed with commentary by a range of activists and supporters, and a great music soundtrack, it is an action packed, fast paced, yet moving and thoughtful film, which gives a unique insight into the contemporary animal rights movement.

Sunday December 3rd - 3.00pm

Cube Microplex
Dove Street South,
Bristol BS2 8JB
Map:
http://microplex.cubecinema.com/cubewebsite/directions.html

Presented in person by Keith Mann a well known ALF activist who has served prison time for breaking animals out of laboratories, there will be a chance to ask questions and challenge the ALF's view that the end justifies the means when seeking to save the lives of others and raise serious issues.

Tickets are £4, available on the door but please email to reserve your seat

1) is this the new suppoosedly impartial film about the ALF from the US...? Its not, this is the in house/PeTA one...?
[edited to add: no its not, its the in house pro ALF one. Can't find the independent one.]

2) i don't think even the ALF say the ends justify the means, cos then they'd just kill vivisectionists. Rod Coronado suggested it was about time to do so though.

if he were your dog...?

you mean, if an animal belonged to me?

Damn straight. We must end vivisection so that all the puppies and cats can be brought up by caring owners.

the trailer for this wrongly lists coronado as being arrested for hunt sabotage. Coronado was inside for burning down a university lab or mink far/several things whilst on the run.

He is now being held in connection with the ELF/for telling ppl how to make incendiary devices.

yeah i think it is because he is in prison for that reason now, he got 8 months prison for trying to stop mountain lion hunt.

And while in prison he is facing those charges about giving talks.

Good film, saw it in Brixton.

I doubt Tacks will go though, I mean Keith Mann is there and he raided a lab, call the cops!

As for Rod, he is in for sabotaging a lion hunt- check it out here http://www.directaction.info/prison_rod.htm.

no he is in prison now for the talks, he has already done time for this:

In 2006, while imprisoned for felony conspiracy and awaiting trial on further charges....

i dont understand, he was sentenced in august for 8 months for hunt sabotage (thats the felony conspiracy bit), so surely he has not done his time yet?

Oh well, i may as well be wrong, but then again, thats what it says in ELF prisoner list and stuff as well.

And in the end of the day, dude is banged up, so it matters very little which one he is sitting in now grin

the ALF don't say the ends justify the means as to use their banner activist can't hurt anyone or anything (even vivisectors).

does it matter what hes in for? its all good. anyway Bite Back magazine prisoner list says:

On August 7, Rod Coronado was sentenced to 8 months in Federal Prison for disrupting a 2004 mountain lion hunt in Sabino Canyon, Arizona. Rod is a dedicated environmental, animal rights and native rights activist.
Please send him letters of support:

Rodney Coronado, #03895000
FCI Tucson
8901 South Wilmot Road
Tucson, AZ 85705
USA

Rod is also facing a state trial for the hunt sab in Sabino Canyon. He has also been indicted on felony charges of demonstrating the use of a destructive device, relating to a presentation he gave in San Diego in 2003.

he has also turned his back on the kind of activism was absolutely instrumental in formenting and argued there was no other way to for over 2 decades, now saying 'its all peace and love, man'

which is pretty funny.

Let our opposition who believe in violence carry the burden for its justification, but let those who believe in peace and love practice a way of life that our society sorely needs now more than ever.

the last part actually explicitly means pacifism, full stop.

Rod's comments about leaving the US ar movement are abit blurry at the moment, but so what if he does? He isnt, never was and will be the first to admit, that he isn't the 'leader' of the ar movement, he is respected by me and others for his length of dedication and determination, personally he is, and Keith Mann, are inspirations.

Anyway enough of bigging Rod up, onto another Q.

I have been reading over libcoms Spanish section, which is very good, but is there any online bios/autobios of people who fought in the International Brigades? Most of them seem to be books/ pamphlets.

too true.what ever he does or doesn't do he's saved lives and that is well worthy of respect.

it would be more impressive if he'd saved lives of human beings, like a nurse for example.

pingtiao are you stupid or something? The nurse is obviously superior to the non-human animal as they can liberate themselves roll eyes

BTW, when was the last time you saved the life of a nurse, you hero you.

i bet if there were some locked up and fucked up with poisons, or in a cage waiting to be anally electrocuted he would be right there wink

Dont forget, he is a community activist and works with kids from his local native american tribe (just an example), he is no tunnel vision animal rights loonie by a country mile mate, so your remarks are just of the mark and ignorrant.

exactly and lets not forget what a nurse is doing is helping recognised suffering legally and usually getting paid for it, whereas people doing aniaml lib are working to save a largely unrecognised opressed group in society, for free, and riskng their own freedom to do so. Also spending a lot of time with ar people they usually give a hell of a lot to humans as well. In fact i know quite a few people that are nurses (or other caring professions) AND animal rights people. "Impressive" enough?
