I'm looking for Plymouth contacts about setting up a group in the city and surrounding area. I've been working with Trident Ploughshares for a couple of years now, and will continue to do so, but I'm looking for something with a harder, more result-oriented and flexible feel to it

No firm commitment necessary yet, just a preliminary chat and then see how it goes.

People from all affiliations or none invited.

I think the page is out of date.

I recall someone (Paul Marsh?) saying that Plymouth Class War came and went, and was supposed to be taken off the list.

I should also mention that, while I am working with Trident Ploughshares locally, I'm not at all out recruiting like some Trot groups I could mention.

I'm looking at setting up a more hard edged group and not necessarily fluffy.

I grew up in Plymouth. Only go there to visit my mother nowadays. From what I gather, apart from Trident Ploughshares, the focus of activism tends to be the local STWC (aka the local SWP).

A sad state of affairs.

This is true. Apart from TP, of which I'm a member, there is little or nothing going on outside the SWP and their front, which are usually the same people wearing different hats for the day.

A sad state of affairs indeed.

Come on folks, there must be somebody interested in doing something!

I must say that this is beginning to piss me off now.

40 views and not one person even remotely interested in having an informal chat about starting a group?

If there are genuine anarchos in the area, and if they already have something going than let me know and I'll be happy to help out as and when I can.

Surely somebody wants to at least have a go at sorting something out?

Have you thought of digging around into the history of anarchist activity in the Plymouth area. I had no idea there were any anarchists in Burnley, but once I hooked up with one of the older anarchists who emerged during a Unite Against Fascism campaign, I suddenly started to connect with many other libertarians and anarchists. What's more, I'm discovering a long history of local anarchist activity in Burnley which has been smothered and hidden.

They'd been there all the time, but had been avoiding anything with the Swerps name on it. Same situation as Plymouth in Burnley - Swerps big in the area, although a little quieter of late! wink

I've also hooked up with libertarians and other anarchists in Burnley and Pendle working in community campaigns, and on community projects with anarchist ideas in them, like our East Lancs Lets Scheme in Burnley. (trading and doing jobs for each other/but without money, we trade in lonks (the Plymouth one trades in plums? are there a lot of plums in the area??) and we have about 90 members now.

Hey guess what, just discovered there's a Lets scheme in Plymouth - bet you'll find some like mindeds in here.

I'm certainly interested in meeting and hopefully having informal links with other Anarchists and anti-authoritarian groups and individuals in the Devon and Cornwall area, so PM me and we'll see what happens.

Cheers.
