Literature on the Ineffective Nature of Consumerist and Economic Responses to Capitalism?

Hi there.

Just wondering if anybody can point me in the direction of any articles or liteature on how consumerist and economic responses to capitalism ie "voting with your dollars" are alone ineffective?

There is one quite good article here:

But a more general, all-encompassing critique would be really useful on libcom if anyone knows where one is or wants to write one!

Haha... thanks!!!

I'm hoping for something along the lines of a simple linear argument which can be used as an information tool in my toolbox of information used for the purposes of helping to radicalize people around me.

Something that explains succinctly why "buying local and organic and ethical" etc, is all well and good in terms of establishing some kind of ethical consistency and can perhaps be useful as a cultural practice for fostering community consciousness and solidarity; however as a strategy for challenging power relations is alone (if at all) ineffective.

The purpose being a further motivational tool towards conscious strategic organisation and direct action.

I'm trying to avoid misusing time and energy writing something along these lines if it already exists out there. I don't know if I'm the best person to write the thing if it doesn't exist, although i'd be happy to give it a shot if nothing turns up soon. It's something I am sure I will need help editing if this proves to be necessary.

I'll hold out a little longer in the hopes someone can provide some links. If not I might come back and ask if anyone would be willing to do some proof reading and editorial support should I need to write it myself.

Thanks again for the link Steven.
