Abolish Restaurants

--------------------------------

Announcing the second comic book/coloring book from www.prole.info:

ABOLISH RESTAURANTS: a worker's critique of the food service industry

ABOLISH RESTAURANTS looks at the daily misery, stress, boredom, and alienation of restaurant work, as well as the ways in which restaurant workers fight against it. Drawing on a range of anti-capitalist ideas as well as a heaping plate of personal experience, ABOLISH RESTAURANTS is part analysis and part call-to-arms.

Take a look. Print it out. Pass it to friends. Drop it off in local bookstores and comic shops.

A hi-res printable PDF is available at the following locations (it is 13.4 mb--15 two-sided 11x17 pages):
http://www.libcom.org.uk/lib/ar.pdf
http://www.arbetsfornedringen.tk/polkagrisar/ar.pdf
http://www.prole.info/ar.pdf

A low-res online version is available at:
http://www.prole.info/ar/index.html

And a text only version is available at:
http://www.prole.info/ar.html

--------------------------------

If you haven't been to www.prole.info before, have a look. We have printable pamphlets and online texts written by anarcho-communists, autonomist marxists, left communists, situationists, workers, labor historians, and much more... as well as a prole.info manifesto/coloring book: "Work . Community . Politics . War"

ABOLISH RESTAURANTS, is currently being translated into Swedish. But stop by www.prole.info and get in touch if you would like to translate it into another language.

For further reading on restaurants from a working class perspective check out the classic "Down and Out in Paris and London" by George Orwell or "Hamburgers vs Value" from Riff-Raff #3-4 ( http://www.riff-raff.se/en/3-4/burgers_vs_value.php )

Finally, thanks to everyone who gave suggestions or helped proofread ABOLISH RESTAURANTS, including but not limited to our friends at: A Murder of Crows ( http://www.geocities.com/amurderofcrows1 ), Polkagrisar ( http://www.polkagris.nu ), and LibCom ( http://www.libcom.org/ ), as well as Prec@riat, Mikus, Giovanni, 888, McShiesty, and tiger kung-fu girl.

This is great stuff! I read it instantly from cover to cover. Of course we have to go further and lower, but this is a great beginning. Probably the best introduction to the workings of capital for about-to-be-communists so far.

i'm up to page 50, the prole.info stuff is beautiful and much easier than Capital without even ditching the old circuits of valourisation tongue good stuff!

*tries to resist the urge to print off loads of copies and distribute them to restaurant workers at random*

Not only did I comment on it, there is a picture of me in it. I am the evil businessman with a carrot and stick towards the end of the book (though it's difficult to tell it's me).

I had a lemonade in the café from Amélie today.
This was while I was being told that the builder has done no work since last week and the apartment that I'd hoped to rent (the only one that would touch me with a ten foot pole) is not finished and might be another week.

Er.. this looks really good but my pc is too slow in uploading stuff for me to easily read it on-line PLUS I would like a hard copy but my printer is on the blink atm and even if it isn't it would still be v. hard for me to print this off with my lame ol' PC specs so could some kind person (maybe John) bring me a hard copy to the 6 Oct drink or might there be copies around at the Bookfair??

Cheers and keep up the good work Quint!

Ah I got audrey tatou pretty quick.

Hmmm though i do wonder if some people might read this thinking that the author actually just wants restaurants to be abolished, and thinks that's a bit silly.

I'm staying in a proper flophouse tonight.
Might end up under the bridge if I'm not careful. That will make for an exciting literary debut smile

I haven't read the whole thing yet, but as long as the pamphlet makes it clear as early as possible that it's more about the way things are produced under capitalism than about restaurants per se, then it's not a problem.

I mean, restaurants as they exist today are a good example of something that only really makes sense when take alienated labour as a given.

Saw a post in response to these in another webforum (begins with U, ends with 5), saying it was a bit "one-side" grin

I've downloaded it and will read in print a bit later on, looking forward to it.

Not sure if my hamster driven printer could survive actually printing something, but I'll give printing it out a bash.
