Dont suppose anyone here was ever involved in AFA (anti-fascist action) i take it they were a little more direct minded and a little less law abiding than their ANL counterparts, and while i dont know about their perspective on society as a whole or whether they actually got involved in the broader class struggle, you have to give it to em, they had some fucking balls!

ANL used to kick ass... (edit: in the seventies)

There are some people on here who were involved in AFA yeah. DAM who became SolFed were probably the main organising force in AFA outside of London and Manchester, where Red Action were dominant

The DAM in London were heavily involved in AFA. It was only after the DAM collapsed (and Workers Power left in a huff) that London AFA became totally RA dominated.

How did DAM collapse? Can split to a new thread if you like...

The DAM didn't collapse, it changed its name to the Solidarity Federation in 1994 and with it a few changes in its structure.

DAM = Direct Action Movement. RA = Red Action.

No need to apologise for being either young or new, ftony. These boards shouldn't exclude people by using abbreviations & acronyms without explaining them first. Makes us sound like Trots for a start. Like when the ISG was formed by a merger between part of the IMG & the WSL, which was in turn a split from the WRP, & became the UK section of the USFI wink

That's always been what I heard, so in that case did how did RA come to dominate London AFA - superior numbers? Or better organisation?

Around the time the DAM were re-organising and re-naming themselves East London DAM, the DAM group most involved in AFA, definitely did collapse.

Oh yeah, and to get back to the original point, I was involved in AFA for a while. They were pretty much a single issue group as you had trots, ex-trots, stalinists, anarchists and others in it. Be a bit tricky agreeing about a lot of things! The mag fighting talk had madly pro-stalinist red army type stuff in it at times. As well as yer anarcho or trot or ex-trot stuff that is. When Red Action came to fully dominate the organisation it did develop broader politics (i.e. red action's) and they pushed through the change to become the IWCA (Independent Working Class Association) who are still around today in a few areas.

The DAM did seem to collapse after it changed to the SolFed thing - don't know why, people just walked away.
