Serge - That's as it was published in 'No Middle Ground' in the 80s. No source for the interview was given and I haven't found it on the net anywhere, but I presume it's genuine. It is pretty rare for the former leader of a nation state to say such things! He was deposed by Boumedienne and spent 24 yrs imprisoned/under house arrest in Algeria. It may be that that interview was done not long after he was released and represents how he retrospectively analysed his own experiences, wishing he'd put more faith in 'the masses' than the political class that dumped him in jail. But his 'self-management' programme while President was anyway an attempt to bring state control over the spontaneous land and factory seizures of workers and peasants.
