Does anyone know owt about them?

According to a bunch of people I've spoken to and stuff I've read from Russian lefties, they've abandoned even Stalinism, are are now in practise a fascist party.

Does anyone know if this is true, or just hyperbole?

Well apparently (as in, a couple of Russian Marxist academics told me in a pub + the speech of some guy at CPGB Communist University embarrassed) they hold joint demos with NBP, and have dropped all references to 'Marxism' and replaced it with 'Statehood', and say the reason the USSR was good was because it gave a strong state - which is the most important thing of all.

Thats about right - the CPRF are normally thought of as being part of the 'Red/Brown' nationalist block. Strong State, nationalization in order to make Russia a great power, etc

They also go on the same demos as the far-right nationalists. I think there were even CPRF at the demos against Moscow Gay Pride alongside fascists and the Orthodox Church.

Interestingly though, their actual votes in the Duma tend to be very much pro-Kremlin, a lot of their 'opposition' is a declaratory thing. Also, in the case of the much hyped 1996 Yeltsin vs Zyuganov election that supposedly decided the fate of Russia, there's been plenty of accusations and rumours that the Communists were complicit in manipulating the elections to get Yeltsin in, and that they basically sold themselves in return for getting a reasonable number of Duma seats.
