Why is property theft, and is stealing a revolutionary act? I am asking this more specifically aimed at Copyright protection of music and the arguments around p2p file sharing on the net.

Have you seen this article on the newswire about Copyright?

Because msuic shouldnt be created for profit but for fun.

Music should be freely avaliable for everyone to listen to and indeed P2P is benefitial for the artist because its how lots of people hear new music.

Music is something creative not something to squeeze money out of people with.

Artists get a teeny percentage of what you pay for cds in the shops, the majrotiy is stolen by capitalists and bureaucrats who own the companies involved.

Yes stealing is a revolutionary act smile

Copyright protection exists only to maintain profits, there is no other arguement in favour of it. As someone who believes in a non-profit society it is therefore irrelevant to me.

Filesharing is the epitomy of mutual aid IMHO and projects like Soulseek etc. should be actively encouraged by Anarchists and used by them to share ideas. They are one of the key aspects which is stopping the commercialisation of the internet (the little bit which is left!!!) and are what the internet is really about.

And now for some links:

http://www.gutenberg.net/ - Project Gutenberg is the Internet's oldest producer of free electronic books.

http://www.textz.com/index.php3?simple_version=http://textz.gnutenberg.net - enter this site and read the 'concept' section for sme thoughts on filesharing.

http://www.zeropaid.com/ - The File Sharing Portal

http://www.eff.org/ - Electronic Frontier Foundation

http://www.eff.org/share/ - EFF Page on File Sharing

And what about alternaitves to copyright? Copy left for example or:

http://creativecommons.org/ - Creative Commons is devoted to expanding the range of creative work available for others to build upon and share.

http://www.gnu.org/licenses/licenses.html - Probably one of the most famous loicenses on the net!
