I have thought this over for quite some time now, and am still unable to come to a satisfactory conclusion. So, I turn to all of you for some sort of assistance.
My motivation for joining the PC is majorly pragmatic. I am doing for the following reasons: (1) They pay off a certain percentage of my federal student loans. (2) I am immersed in a different culture and am able to learn at least one new language.
There is also, however, my original motivation. From the time I was a child I had the goal of joining the Peace Corps to help people across the world. I am still, of course, interested in this, but in a slightly different way. It is here that I am aware of the alternatives to the Peace Corps, such as getting my certificate to teach English and hopping on a plane. This, however, I see as an impossibility. Why? Not only will I not get the benefit of having the government pay off some of my student loans, but I will have to make payments on those very student loans while accumulating interest (not to mention the private loans that are doing the same as I type this).
So, if you were in my position, do you see joining the Peace Corps as a conflict of interest?
