I know a fair few people who are both mates and authoritarian marxists in the hardline Bolshevik vein. Now I don't want to 'dismiss' them as mates because of their ideology, i'd like to get them interested in anarchist ideas, i've already discussed anarchist ideas with a few of them, with some success (two of them moving from a Bolshevik line to a anarchist view). Basically how have you dealt with such situations, how would you deal with such situations, what should I discuss with them that makes them 'see' the ideological and practical merit of anarchy as a political and social theory, and one that has, can and will work, yet without coming across as preaching.
Remember these are people with some, often a fair bit, of political knowledge and background, and most of them are under 25 (if that matters), so how can I debate with them (in a friendly way) yet still show them the good avalible in anarchy. History, theory, jokes etc, anything that would help me, but not becoming to preachy (or clogged down in ideology and disputes).
Thanks,
DV

Hey dv,
A great text is this one: The Bolsheviks and Workers' Control - The State and Counter-Revolution - Maurice Brinton
http://libcom.org/library/the-bolsheviks-and-workers-control-solidarity-group
about how bolshevik practice actually went against everything that socialists stand for - namely workers' democracy at the point of production. Highly recommended.
