ok i really don't get this at all. Why do people keep going on about being queer?
Some kid i know says here's he's queer right,and he isn't even gay. He says its a state of mind or a statement against oppressive gender roles or something.

Being queer is about moving beyond preordained gender roles. It doesn't necessarily have to do with what kind of anatomy you prefer your sexual partners to have.

Yeah. There's more to it than wearing skirts even though you've got a wiener, silly. Among other things, it means that I don't think of sex as involving a man/butch/top and a woman/femme/bottom, and, most importantly, don't practice it that way.
I think I've said all I want about it, anyway. It's not really at the top of my agender (har har), to be honest.

im bi but i dont id as queer because it seems to me to be about a lifestyle i dont have any interest in. im poly atm, my first ever try at it so im brand new, but both relationships im in are het. if i got with another woman id be much more inclined to describe our relationship as lesbian than queer. i know that some people are trying to get a P added to the end of LGBT (which often includes an I now as well) but there seems like there's constant arguments both within and without the T, I, and P 'groups' about whether they want to be included or not, as well as people within the L and G who do and dont want the additional letters, i mean groups. and of course theres a big bunch of Ls who have decided to be seperatists, feeling unrepresented and edged out of the LGBT/I/P group.
its very confusing, imo

I've been told that "queer" was taken back by radicals looking to distance themselves from the identity politics of HRC types and provide a genuine critique of inter locking oppression-ya know capitalism, hierarchy etc . Any truth to this?

Because I am not gay, I'm queer. I do not exclusively sleep with women (at least after the 19th) and believe there are more than two genders, which is what the "bi" iin bisexual implies.. I generally do cross the bridge when I get to it; I said before that when someone asks, I respond that I am not straight. This might not be an issue for you, since people tend to assume someone is straight unless they are very obviously not. I think that is annoying, generally, but don't much care. But I'm not going to just sit there if someone asks me. Make sense?

A lot of people use the term "queer" because "homosexual" and "bisexual" imply that there are two gender categories and they don't agree with that binary.
