Technology and anarchism

Where do you see technology and its advancement in an anarchist society? I am not a fan of John Zerzan, but I think it is a legitimate question when he says who will do the often dangerous and dull work that technology requires in our time. I am not anti-technology, but claims towards technology-as-progress, in my opinion, often lack analytical depth.

To what degree can certain technology nowadays be abandoned if the society recognizes its decadent effect on us? Aren't there technologies which perhaps require continuation and a state of well-being - can mass society live without them decently?

I'm sitting here posting on my laptop, in a few minutes I'll watch another episode of The Wire I downloaded on the laptop, and I'll check on some records I'm bidding on. Technology is sweet; may as well be my girlfriend.

The dangerous and dull work of one person digging a hole with a mechanical digger is turned into a liberating task when 50 people do it with spades.
