I don't see why it's considered OK in some circles to blithely accuse others of lying.

I like to think Lem's a bit like Ozzy Osbourne reading Hegel.

EDIT: he's definitely more interesting than the other acid casualties I know, who basically indulge in misanthropy and drunken racism.

17 October, 2007 - 01:32

To get back to the OP. Violence agaist scabs.

Merits:

- is funny
- if you hurt a scab, it negatively affects productivity, even if they make it in
- makes people be afraid to scab

Drawbacks:

- you might get caught by the police and be in trouble
- scab wages might go up (short term problem)

That's about it.

You don't have sense of humor. You didn't even find revol's impersonation of mmagid funny.

Rata, this came up after I mentioned the worst piece of violence I had seen against a scab (somebody having his eye taken out by a coal chisel). It was pretty horrific. I wasn't laughing at the time. We don't condemn workers who commit acts like these, but neither do we glorify in them, or try to turn them into a Tarantino film.

The scabbing must have been fairly extreme to deserve being blinded in one eye. The only thing I could imagine that would deserve a reprisal like this was being a proven agent of the bosses. I don't think violence against scabs ever solved anything. If workers can only be persuaded to extend solidarity out of fear, then it's not solidarity at all.

Nail. Head.

although reservoir dogs would arguably been better if the discussion on tipping was a discussion of chiselling scabs, but i digress, it's not funny.

Well, as we see revolutionary violence as our method of struggle, you could say that we are glorifying beating of scabs. If by glorifying you understand standing by our method. The fact that you witnessed scab being beaten up doesn’t prove that you have sense of humor which was inhibited by the scene, on contrary; it is one more proof that you are lacking it. I saw many nasty things in Serbia in last 15 years, including people being melted by the bombs, but I still can make fun about that, because I do have a sense of humor. Every other approach to the fun in getting scabs beaten up is just petit bourgeoisie moralizing.

17 October, 2007 - 19:01

Revolutionary violence, execpt not in a revolution you mean. or revolutionary.

I stand somewhere between devrim and demorgoron on this, i think. It's difficult to criticise either of them, but the rest of you well you just sound like terrorists.
