"Never shake thy gory locks at me!"

Macbeth to Macduff's ghost.

gory locks. Say it with me. Gory locks.

Harry wrote:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed

Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,

And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks

That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

This is not just nationalism - this is Monarchist nationalism cool

Quote:
If you prick us, do we not bleed?

Is the sloganistic part, but the whole lot is solid gold:

shylock wrote:
He hath disgraced me, and hindered me half a million, laughed at my losses, mocked at my gains, scorned my nation, thwarted my bargains, cooled my friends, heated mine enemies; and what's his reason? I am a Jew. Hath not a Jew eyes? hath not a Jew hands, organs, dimensions, senses, affections, passions? fed with the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject to the same diseases, healed by the same means, warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer, as a Christian is? If you prick us, do we not bleed? if you tickle us, do we not laugh? if you poison us, do we not die? and if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?

I mean, the st crispins day address, thats just good writing. The above is incredible. Utterly timeless - not the quote but the whole play. It might sound pompous, but if people were actually reading and watching shakespeare i find slavery and the oppression of women having to be debated like there wasn't an obvious right or wrong in the coming centuries ridiculous.

Iago wrote:
I follow him to serve my turn upon him:
We cannot all be masters, nor all masters
Cannot be truly follow'd.

Oh yeah.

Finally, the cheese course has arrived:

James Oppenheim wrote:
As we come marching, marching, we battle too for men
For they are women's children and we mother them again.
Our lives will not be sweated from birth until life closes
Hearts starve as well as bodies: give us Bread, but give us Roses

i have to go now i'm crying my eyes out grin

Yes. We might not own the means of production, but at least they don't charge us to look at the moon.

"The problem is, I could sit here and stack up an enormous amount of very pretty research over a period of the next thirty years or so that I have left in me, and that's fine. And then the next generation of people will turn around and look at this forest and it will all be cow pasture. So what's better? Spending my time stacking up thirty years of research, or only doing half as much research and ending up saving the place, and leaving it for other people to do vastly more research? Because what I'll get done in my lifetime is still tiny compared to what the potential of this places is."

It was the only item of political thought that was pinned up on the wall during the occupation of 34 Broadway Market. A poem by Bobby Sands:

Quote:
The Rhythm Of Time

There's an inner thing in every man,
Do you know this thing my friend?
It has withstood the blows of a million years,
And will do so to the end.

It was born when time did not exist,
And it grew up out of life,
It cut down evil's strangling vines,
Like a slashing searing knife.

It lit fires when fires were not,
And burnt the mind of man,
Tempering leandened hearts to steel,
From the time that time began.

It wept by the waters of Babylon,
And when all men were a loss,
It screeched in writhing agony,
And it hung bleeding from the Cross.

It died in Rome by lion and sword,
And in defiant cruel array,
When the deathly word was 'Spartacus'
Along with Appian Way.

It marched with Wat the Tyler's poor,
And frightened lord and king,
And it was emblazoned in their deathly stare,
As e'er a living thing.

It smiled in holy innocence,
Before conquistadors of old,
So meek and tame and unaware,
Of the deathly power of gold.

It burst forth through pitiful Paris streets,
And stormed the old Bastille,
And marched upon the serpent's head,
And crushed it 'neath its heel.

It died in blood on Buffalo Plains,
And starved by moons of rain,
Its heart was buried in Wounded Knee,
But it will come to rise again.

It screamed aloud by Kerry lakes,
As it was knelt upon the ground,
And it died in great defiance,
As they coldly shot it down.

It is found in every light of hope,
It knows no bounds nor space
It has risen in red and black and white,
It is there in every race.

It lies in the hearts of heroes dead,
It screams in tyrants' eyes,
It has reached the peak of mountains high,
It comes searing 'cross the skies.

It lights the dark of this prison cell,
It thunders forth its might,
It is 'the undauntable thought', my friend,
That thought that says 'I'm right!'

"Our legions are brim-full, our cause is ripe:
The enemy increaseth every day;
We, at the height, are ready to decline.
There is a tide in the affairs of men
Which taken at the flood leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.
On such a full sea are we now afloat,
And we must take the current when it serves,
Or lose our ventures."

I quite like the first line of Adam Smith's 'Wealth of Nations'; (from memory) "labour is the fund from which all the wealth of a nation is purchased" - just to throw at pro-capitalists who've never read him and assume i'm quoting Marx

There's 4 pages between this so bash me for being lazy not going thru the rest but - I don't know has this one of his been posted as an another throw as Joseh K mentioned?

Civil government, so far as it is instituted for the security of property, is, in reality, instituted for the defense of the rich against the poor, or of those who have property against those who have none at all." (Adam Smith)

Here's one by Chomsky

"The more you can increase fear of drugs and crime, welfare mothers, immigrants and aliens, the more you control all the people."

Here's my other favourites

"The nationalist not only does not disapprove of atrocities committed by his own side, but he has a remarkable capacity for not even hearing about them." (George Orwell)

"The struggle of people against power is the struggle of memory against forgetting." (Milan Kundera)

"The State is the altar of political freedom and, like the religious altar, it is maintained for the purpose of human sacrifice." (Emma Goldman)

"Those who do not move, do not notice their chains." (Rosa Luxembourg)

Of course, that's not an actual quote, but close enough I suppose.

"Amidst the ashes of your burning flags we will refuse the spectacle of gender, race, spirituality, nationality, for we want everything — not a fragment — for everyone."

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism, and become lesbians. - Rev. Pat Robertson
