"Never shake thy gory locks at me!"
Macbeth to Macduff's ghost.
gory locks. Say it with me. Gory locks.
And gentlemen in England now a-bedShall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.
This is not just nationalism - this is Monarchist nationalism
If you prick us, do we not bleed?
Is the sloganistic part, but the whole lot is solid gold:
He hath disgraced me, and hindered me half a million, laughed at my losses, mocked at my gains, scorned my nation, thwarted my bargains, cooled my friends, heated mine enemies; and what's his reason? I am a Jew. Hath not a Jew eyes? hath not a Jew hands, organs, dimensions, senses, affections, passions? fed with the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject to the same diseases, healed by the same means, warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer, as a Christian is? If you prick us, do we not bleed? if you tickle us, do we not laugh? if you poison us, do we not die? and if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?
I mean, the st crispins day address, thats just good writing. The above is incredible. Utterly timeless - not the quote but the whole play. It might sound pompous, but if people were actually reading and watching shakespeare i find slavery and the oppression of women having to be debated like there wasn't an obvious right or wrong in the coming centuries ridiculous.
I follow him to serve my turn upon him:
We cannot all be masters, nor all masters
Cannot be truly follow'd.
Oh yeah.
Finally, the cheese course has arrived:
As we come marching, marching, we battle too for men
For they are women's children and we mother them again.
Our lives will not be sweated from birth until life closes
Hearts starve as well as bodies: give us Bread, but give us Roses
i have to go now i'm crying my eyes out
