Went down to the Visteon plant in Enfield today and it was suggested that it might be a good idea to put together a bunch of histories of occupations to give to the workers inside. Had a quick look on the site and found the following:

1918-1921: The Italian factory occupations - Biennio Rosso
Under new management - Fisher-Bendix occupation, 1972
2000: Cellatex chemical plant occupation
2001: Brighton bin men's strike and occupation

Any others?

-- The original pamphlet is really nice. Mine's on loan to a mate at the moment though.

"In 1971 ... Upper Clyde shipbuilders decided to sack 2,500 out of a 8,500 workforce. The workers occupied the shipyard, 200,000 Scottish workers struck in solidarity and 80,000 went on a demonstration. The Strathclyde police were so shocked by the situation that the chief constable phoned the prime minister and told him he could not be responsible for civil order on the Clyde unless the government changed its policy on UCS. So the government did a U-turn and UCS was saved. Following this, 200 other factories were occupied".

erm, the words of the late T. Cliff...

Academic website with details of the UCS occupation or 'work-in' here...
