Anarchy In The West Midlands Tour
ok, this is an idea kidda and me have been discussing, and i've spoken to a few of you about it, but i reckon that after the cbi we should do a sort of tour of the west midlands. we'd take a stall to somewhere that we have contacts each saturday, then in the evening have a meeting there for anyone who was interested and to get to know contacts we already have, help them set up a local group etc. so as to reduce the amount of brum-centricness that we have at the moment.
so some dates when we could have them, if people can say which ones they can make and which ones they can't we can decide where we go and when, but we won't need everyone for each one just say a couple to run the stall and then another two to releive them after a bit and help them shift if we get moved by the filth.
22nd of november
29th of november
6th of december
13th of december
plus some in january if we're not finished by then.
places i know we can go are so far brum city centre, cov, leamington spa and nottingham, is there anywhere else? should we go to various areas of brum? i reckon we could also do a stall at birmingham uni sometime during the week, but i'll need to ask the animal rights guy what we have to do. much as i don't want to do student politics, this might get us some dosh, and we could form a selly oak section of the wma i suppose.
another idea for this is to have the stall outside, or at least vaguely near a brighthouse, as the lead up to christmas is the perfect time to target the bastards. maybe two people could do the stall while two leaflet and then swap or something.
anyway, we should get moving on this, as otherwise we'll forever spend meetings saying how important doing community stuff and spreading the message is, whilst doing fuck all.
If you need some Freedoms, books or whatever, give us a PM or summat
I can help out, just PM me.
I GOT THE JOB

but my hours are shite
their making me work saturdays
which means no sanctuary for me on a friday night
nooooooooo
Friday nights should be full of drum n bass not early to bed
and it also means i wont be able to do stalls on a saturday
but i have a odd day off in the week so i can do them then
i finish at 7pm, so i can still make the meetings.
well i don't know how we can get a stall to these places, this is where we need someone with a car. but the actual stuff should fit in my bag, or deffinitely 2 people's bags. what stuff do we want from freedom? there's the good little new books about anarchism which are reletively recent (as in written less than half a century ago), breaking free and some copies of freedom, do we want anything else? shall i ask for just some random stuff? and some hiphop cds? lets decide soon then they can send it in time.
we can decide on exactly when at the meeting on sunday. i just put those dates up to get things moving, otherwise nowt happens...
btw, kidda, does you phone work at the mo?
yeah my phone works
it was switched off the other day
so thats probably why it didnt work
or it might have been cos it flew across the room at one point
either way it seems to be fine now
did everyone get my pms?
I am a newbie. I can help out on stalls. Just let me know when and where. Oh, and about the next meeting.
Hamlet
I could help out with anything you wanna do in either Leam or if you fancy uni of warwick (although be warned, I had no takers for 'warwickanarchism', but that might be because somebody ripped my posters down
)
sorry
you coming tomorrow?
This is a great idea!
Still, I think just turning up to a place and doing a stall of a weekend will not get a group going. My plan would be: get a local contact, organise a public meeting (hopefully with a local angle), flypost for the meeting a few weeks in advance and talk to people who come to that.
I'm involved with the anti-G8 planning that's been happening for a few months (the G8 is coming to the UK in 2005); roadshows of this sort is one thing we've been talking about. Would you like to make your W Midlands tour part of that? We're thinking regional roadshows.
There's no way I'll let you get away with calling Nottingham part of the West Midlands, though
Maybe we could link up and do an all-Midlands tour?
I know people in Derby and (maybe) Stoke...
I'll be along to the anti-CBI thing, so we can talk about roadshows more then.
I do hope you come along, Sorry. We've got to complete your journey from Bukharinite to Bakuninist...
'fraid I couldn't make it this time (summit came up - lame I know). You lot up to anything special for Georgie's visit in the week (pm me, if necessary)?
the reason nottingham is in there is cos we know someone there and it's not that far. maybe we should change are name to the "neither east nor west midlands anarchists"... or maybe not... anyway, yeah, i wasn't expecting one stall to start a group or anything, but i thought as a start we could just do that and then anyone who's interested can come to a meeting in the evening, and then people who live in wherever we have the stall won't have to come to brum for a meeting for a change.
so when do we want to do this? i don't think this weekend is good what with everything else on this weekend, and i won't be able to do next weekend although i can pass stuff on to someone else. also, dissident (the original one) said that we should have an issue of brum brum to give out before we do one, which is a good idea. when shall we set the deadline for that? we need to get moving, there were loads of us at the cbi (well, comparitively), and it would be good to at least target one brighthouse before xmas.
i will ask for an order from freedom, does anyone have any special requests?
I definately want to get a stall up in brum within the next three weeks, anybody else agree? I think if we startin brum then branch out to whereve people want to go i think that would be cool. For Brum Brum i dont think it can be that good, maybe if we just start it as a news letter? a few pages and some pretty pictures?
From freedom, i think you should ask or some of everything they have got.
Also im working on 'What anarchy is, and what anarchy is not' pamphley/leaflet thingie which hopefully will turn out okay, but i need help with it getting mass produced.
Can i also say it was good to see everyone on sunday, hope to see you all very soon.
OK, let's get a list of places in the Midlands we can do the roadshow:
Birmingham
Coventry
Leamington
Derby
Nottingham
Mansfield
I'll try to find someone in Stoke, too. Should we split Brum up into areas, or do specific ones for Dudley, etc?
Like I said, I'll be more up for this in the new year.
I agree with these:
Birmingham
Coventry
Leamington
Derby
Nottingham
Mansfield
Also i think
Sutton College
Josiah Mason College
i could get them done easily as i got to JMC and i have friends at Sutton.
Also Erdington High Street? its my local high street just a suggestion.
It would be good if you could do a stall at Warwick Uni - it'd make a change to the all the Swappie/Militant stalls.
um, freedom have hundreds and hundreds, possibbly thousands of books, so i don't think one of everything is a good idea unless you want to open up a shop. also, things tend to seel better when you have a lot of a few rather than a few of loads. it would also cost a few thousand quid, and i don't fancy paying that much... if you ever go to london, pay a freedom a visit, it's great.
well someone needs to say a weekend and i'm busy for the next two, so either do it without me in which case someone needs to collect the stuff or do it in three weeks time. brum brum was meant to be just two sides of a4 for the moment. when we have as many anarchists as thessaloniki, we can make it a newspaper with seperate sections for every area...
do we have contacts in all those places then? also, does anyone have a car or van, because that would be very handy indeed. normally i'd probably be able to get the animal rights guy to get stuff there, but it's the hunt season now so on saturdays he tends to be otherwise engaged. friday afternoons are good for me too though, and i think sundays were for most people.
um, right, to make sure we do this, lets pick a date now. how about two weeks on ofriday, saturday or sunday in birmingham?
Well i dont know what to get, i think you should just get whatever you feel.
I think maybe the 6th 7th 8th of december would be a good time to have a meeting. We could discuss Brum Brum there?
have fun in london,
i vote for a friday or a sunday for obvious reasons
but if you can cope with out me (and im quite sure you cant
)

We are all ace, you especially
right, let's get this started in the new year then. here's my suggestion for dates and locations, with wilkos and brighthouses nearest to the centres as possible listed so we can picket them on the same day, if those who know the towns could check the stores out and nearby area to see if it is suitable for a stall then that would help. the stall doesn't have to be right next to them, but i think it would be quite good if people saw a stall with our general anarchist info stuff on, then somewhere else saw us picketing slave labour users and loan shark scumbags, it would at least show that we're serious and don't just like breaking stuff.
i think saturdays would be best as that is when the most people are out and about shopping, but it depends on how many people can be available when, i guess a friday afternoon would be pretty busy too. for just a stall on it's own we only really need about four people (max, could do it with two), two to do the stall for an hour or two, then the other two take over so no one gets too bored. where there is a brighthouse or wilkos we'd need an two people for each store and two for the stall as a minimum.
16-17 January - Birmingham City Centre
BrightHouse, 18 Bull Street, Birmingham B4 7LB
(we may as well have our stall near here, there's an over hang for if it rains and it's near the cheaper shitter shops)
30-31 January - Coventry City Centre
wilkos, CATHEDRAL LANE, SHOPPING CENTRE BROADGATE, COVENTRY CV1 1LL
brighthouse, 36 Broadgate, Coventry, West Midlands CV1 1NF
13-14 February - Dudley
wilkos, 39-41 HIGH STREET, DUDLEY, WEST MIDLANDS DY1 1PN
brighthouse, 19 Churchill Shopping Centre, Dudley, West Midlands DY2 7BJ
27-28 Febraury - Leamington Spa
doesn't appear to be either of our two targets in leamington, so this can be a nice little break
12-13 March - Derby
wilkos, UNIT 6/14, MAIN CENTRE, CASTLEFIELDS, DERBY DE1 2PE
brighthouse, Unit 6 Osnabruck Square, Albert Street, Derby, Derbyshire DE1 2DS
26-27 March - Mansfield
wilkos, UNIT 1, CLUMBER STREET,MANSFIELD NG18 1NU
brighthouse, Unit 35 Four Seasons Centre, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire NG18 1SU
8-9 April - Nottingham
wilkos, 20/20A TANNER WALK, BROADMARSH CENTRE, NOTTINGHAM NG1 7LF
brighthouse, Unit 30/31 Broad Marsh Centre, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire NG1 7LH
nottingham has quite alot of libertarian types, so hopefully we could have a load more stuff on the stall, more people to do the pickets with.
if people can say what dates are ok for them, what dates are rubbish for really obvious reasons (i can never remember dates so there could be important things happening on some of these dates), what dates would be better for reasons like if there's some local events that'll bring more people to one particular place, that sort of thing. it would be good to get this sorted in the next week or two so we can publicise on the website and that sort of thing.
also, what do we have to go on it? so far i have:
class war
class war 2004 miners strike anniversary callenders
2 really crap aussie class war punk cds
a load of class war t-shirts and tops
possibly some 21st century class war intro pamphlets (i need to check)
500 brighthouse leaflets
some copies of counter info, but these are probably out of date.
kidda, do what do we have from solfed? do have anything from afed? if not ask i'll get in touch and get them to send resistance to my current address, in case they're still sending it to my old one. we should also get some copies of earth first! action update. we should by then have some copies of brum brum and i can do another load of wilko leaflets if we can't get hold of yon mancunian who i gave the last lot to and has apparently disappeared of the face of the earth, or at least the bit occupied by us.
i know there were other suggestions for places to go, but we can always add new places if we think we can fit them in after doing a few stalls. and when we've finished this lot of stalls we can always continue the tour in may.
GET THIS SORTED PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay seems good to me aslong as its over the weekend i can go.
Is there any leaflets just plainly about what anarchy is?
i forgot to say i'll get some stuff from freedom sent up, including intro to anarchism books. how many copies of freedom the paper shall i ask for each fortnight? they're on sale or return normally. also, kidda, could you PLEASE type up this mythical leaflet you claim to have written? that would be great.
I aint comming to the coventry one if its outside cathedral lanes, to call it a 'goth hang out' is an understatment and its about the worst place i could imagen to have it.
i would say warick uni wich is in cov stragley, there is also a big super wilko! over thr road wich gets very busy.
we could go into the store and hand out plenty of leaflets there.

apart from that, lets get this thing rolling.
also what about a meeting after the stall if we get some intrest.
can the students amongst you get free rooms at uni's other than ure own?

yep decent idea
maybe if the build up to crimbo is a bit short on time for us all we could take the tour into late Jan
I have a job interview on Monday, so my commitment is up in the air at the moment, as i dont know if i'll get it and if i do what my hours will be. But i'll do what i can, hopefully Saturdays shouldnt be a problem.
How are we going to get the stall and all the stuff to these various places?
