i would like to mention how the allies ethnically cleansed eastern europe of it's german populations after the war. this was a trend started by the soviets in the 1930's to clear their border regions of potential "fifth columnists" in the advent of war between the soviets and poland or germany, peraps both as stalin believed.
in august 1941, the soviets began rounding up ethnic germans from areas that would fall under wehrmacht control, ukraine etc. they also liquidated the volga german assr, even though it was 100's of miles from the front.
the allies also persuaded benes to to expel the germans of czechoslovakia in order to avoid another munich style crisis. other nations that fell under the red army, romania and hungary also expelled or sent to siberia 1000's of their ethnic germans, some of whom were descended from colonists who arrived in those areas in the 12thC. the biggest expulsion of course in eastern germany, those areas assigned to poland and the soviet union. millions had already fled the red army, those who remained were forcibily expelled. 16m expelled, 2m died.
for a much better understanding of this much forgotten period of history, read de zayas' books "nemesis at potsdam" and "a terrible revenge".
