About the Property is Theft blog

My name is Phil Dickens. I’m an anarcho-syndicalist, antifascist, and trade unionist from Liverpool, England.

I’m an active member of the Solidarity Federation and Liverpool Antifascists. I’m also a union rep, health & safety rep, and young members’ activist in PCS – though, as an anarcho-syndicalist, I am answerable to rank-and file members rather than the bureaucracy, and always will be.

Somewhere in the midst of all this, I have been able to set up home with my fiancé. Her blog, An Experiment in Normality, can be found here. We have two cats called Salem (my “appropriate black cat”) and Mogget, and a dog called Izzy.

We are convinced that freedom without Socialism is privilege and injustice, and that Socialism without freedom is slavery and brutality.
~ Mikhail Bakunin

Property is Theft! is not a commentary on current events, but rather a blog about the philosophical basis for my own anarchist principles. I try to keep it topical, and to relate it to issues that are ongoing where possible, but rather than providing an opinion on any single given event, the point is to look at both the practical application of anarchist ideas in the present day and the organisation required to work towards a non-hierarchical society in the future.
My aim isn’t to provide fodder for academic discussion, but to provoke practical debate amongst anarchists and libertarians living in the real world.
