Public school kids - kick them out of the movement, or just kick them?

You decide!

Hi

We should let them in, if they promise to shut up and do what they’re told. Mild kicking may be required.

The worst kind of middle class activist is the one that decides to “rough it” with their poorer comrades. They’d be better off using their privileged position to provide finance and cushy jobs for proper revolutionaries.

They never seem to though, which just goes to show how useless they are. I think it’s OK to keep one as a mascot. They look alright in little tartan waistcoats.

We should make them fag for the working class members.

grin

Let them in but excommunicate them if they use the phrase 'yacht club'.

I know your probably joking, but i don't think their background neccessarily matters. For example, wasn't Bakunin a fucking prince or something? Or was it kropotkin. One of those Russians anyway.

kropotkin was a prince and he was like a big general dude after coming first in his class at the military academy

but his heart wasn't in it and he just wanted to run around in lovely fields all day and pick flowers...

If they're really part of the movement then who cares? If it's just posing and posturing then of course kick them out, but public school kids have had the advantage of a (possibly) better education. A lot of it depends on the school of course. But don't forget that Eton has the well-established Orwell society!

I went to public school (I had a scholarship).

And the apocalypse isn't due till 2012 (22nd December to be precise, at least according to the Aztecs and the Mayans - pity they're no longer around to see if they were right!).

Hi

Having said that, they're welcome to the "Anarchist Movement" and the left milieu in general. I’m sure they’ll be very happy together.

See how the middle class cause division and antagonism? What more proof is required to show that they must be cast aside. Consigned to history’s dustbin.

Eton has not got a George Orwell Society. I gave the final lecture (on Anarchism) to it last year. The society was being wrapped up mainly because its members took part in the big anti-war demo. About 70 turned up and I can only confess to being impressed by the boy's confidence and interest in the subject. One 15 year-old was reading Proudhon in French! Incidently, the month before my lecture, George Galloway spoke on Socialism, but he wanted to keep his visit quiet. I wonder why.

how easily things become just another pissing contest with insults flying left(wing) right(wing) and center

Ive no doubt there are some public school taught anarchos out there who have stuck to their convictions but all in all in the long run students ( no matter what their background) et al tend to have their phase of rebellion and discussions about how they are going to change the world through revolution .... then leave full time education, get a job , don a suit and then leave the disillusions of youth behind them and in no time at all they own a house have 2.4 children and go to dinner parties once a week.

or am I just being cynical.

and you can't be an anarchist with kids, a house or a taste for dinner parties?

What you mean is most people grow up and the activist scene becomes completely irrelevant to their life.

Of course you can be an anarchist with those things , that wasnt my point, my point was that convictions you have while in your youth may not be the same as to what you have when you are older, life sometimes tends to get in the way.

got the kids, got the council house ( rented ) but never quite developed a taste for dinner parties.

Hi

As it happens, one of the finest comrades I ever knew was a public school type. And one of the worst kinds, one that would not take advantage of their privilege for my personal financial gain.

Regardless, we must never miss an opportunity to insult middle class people for being middle class.

All of you, obey me. Stop trying to turn constructive reverse snobbery for its own sake into a sensible political discussion.

plus, the Krondstadt sailors were all educated at public school, the asturais miners were petty bourgeois and the striking miners in the 70s and 80s were all major shareholders in Exxon Mobil!

You really are obsessed arent you?! I bet you go to sleep at night and have nightmares about clowns waving feather boas in your face while some guy snorts a line of ket whilst waxing lyrically about the genius of hakin bey and then finding out your homes been turned into a squat and the black bloc are planning to trash your local tescos!

I think what Porkadian was probably saying is that a lot of young middle class people who flirt with ideas they perceive to be radical and dangerous only do so as an act of youthful rebellion and end up getting a well paid job being an executive, director or manager of something or other and would happily struggle to keep things ticking over the way they are, hence abandon any inclination towards revolutionary ideas they ever held.

It surely come down to whether they are sound or not, no point making a blanket judgement.

That said I've met shitloads of public school kids at uni, a huge percentage are cunts. And if they're all against the wall june 6th then we'll be largely correct.
