France: new wildcat strike at Bordeaux airport

After a 6 hour wildcat earlier this week security staff have again walked out over pay claims.

The wildcat strike, as reported earlier on libcom, was in support of wage demands and three colleagues. When SGSA Penauille bought Astriam the 88 workers (out of a total of 100 at the airport) were transferred, in the process they lost a week's salary, which SGSA is refusing to pay.

Security workers at Bordeaux airport launched a wildcat strike yesterday morning.

The workers, employed by SGSA Penauill walked out yesterday morning at 6:30 am. All 88 SGSA employees, who make up around 90% of the workforce, joined the wildcat.

The action was in support of a current wage dispute with management. Workers agreed to return to work at 1pm some 29 flights had been delayed by this point.

Around 100 clerical staff will have their wages docked for a brief unofficial strike earlier this month.

The Irish Times reported that in a letter sent to Siptu union president Jack O'Connor, Aer Lingus chief executive Dermot Mannion said the pay of "all staff involved in the stoppage will be deducted for the period of the stoppage".

Thousands were affected when security guards at Charleroi airport walked out in a row over privatisation

The BBC reported that all flights in and out of Ryanair's Belgian hub at Charleroi airport were grounded on Friday after security staff walked out in a wildcat strike.

A row over the privatisation of public sector security personnel caused the disruption, which began at dawn and spread to Liege airport in the east.

An estimated 8,000 passengers have been affected by the action so far.

Tens of thousands had flights cancelled as workers at the Indian state-owned airline walked out over wages in arrears.

Indiaenews.com reported that employees of Indian airlines went on a snap strike over pay with union chiefs vowing to continue the stir until their demands are met.

Across the country, the industrial action crippled air services, forcing passengers to either cancel their flights or sweat it out - in blistering heat in some cities - waiting for a delayed departure.

Airbus hit by more wildcat strikes in Germany

Workers at three Airbus plants in Germany downed tools yesterday against job cuts and restructuring by the firm.

Reuters reported that Airbus workers at three German plants walked off the job on Wednesday in protest against planned restructuring measures by the European planemaker, the IG Metall labour union said.

More strikes at Scandinavian airline SAS

Hundreds of flights were cancelled over the weekend due to a strike of flight attendants at SAS Sweden.

The Bangkok post reported that early Friday, about 800 flight attendants went on strike forcing SAS Sweden to cancel some 300 flights affecting some 20,000 passengers. About half of the cancellations were domestic flights.

Some 100 flights were cancelled on Saturday due to an ongoing strike by 800 flight attendants.

Italy: A week of strikes and wildcats at airports

A nationwide strike of air traffic controllers today follows six days of wildcat strike action by Alitalia flight attendants.

Iht.com reported that Italy's national carrier Alitalia alone cancelled 394 flights today because of the 10am to 6pm strike.

Alitalia flight attendant unions are trying to keep up the pressure on the struggling national carrier over contract negotiations. Other international carriers also canceled flights because of the walkout by air traffic controllers.

Denmark: wildcat strike by cabin crew

Cancelled SAS flights

Wildcat action by 1600 air hostesses and stewards working for the airline SAS has led to the cancellation of 104 flights in and out of the Danish capital, Copenhagen.

The airline has already cancelled a further 14 flights tomorrow as a precaution and has assured customers that flights with Norwegian and Swedish staf will be unaffected.
