General strike in Italy against government handling of the crisis

Hundreds of thousands of workers downed tools and took to the streets in a four hour stoppage stating "we won't pay for the crisis".

The strike by the General Confederation of Italian workers (CGIL) shut down postal services nationwide, transport services and airports in several cities and many automobile manufacturers, in some of which strikers were joined by members of other unions.

London: thousands of bus drivers strike

5000 bus workers with Metroline and First Group walked out at 3 a.m. this morning in a row over equal pay causing massive disruption across the capital.

The drivers will be out on a 24 hour strike to protest at the huge pay disparity between the 18 London bus companies.

Several sources report solid support for the action, with very few drivers crossing picket lines, many routes completely cancelled and others running only minimal services.

Eleven London bus garages join strike action

Unite members at a further eleven bus garages in London are set to join the 3,500 bus workers who have been taking strike action on Friday 10 and Wednesday 22 October.

The 2,500 Unite members who work for Metroline voted 88.5 per cent in favour of strike action in a recent ballot by the union. Unite submitted a London wide claim to all bus operators in March of this year to challenge the current system whereby drivers (and other grades) performing identical jobs within the TfL regulated industry, receive hugely varying pay and conditions.

London bus strike solid

The Unite union says that its 24 hour strike at First Capital East Buses and First Centrewest Buses remained solid.

The strike by workers at one of London's largest bus companies brought 50 routes to a standstill and a spokeswoman for the bus company said that only "very, very limited services" were running on several lines in the capital.

London bus workers to strike

2,500 bus drivers in east, west and central London will be going on strike tomorrow (August 29th) to oppose a below-inflation pay offer.

The Unite union has confirmed that strike action which is expected to halt the services of First Capital East Buses and First Centrewest Buses in London will go ahead from 3.00am Friday 29th August. The action will affect bus routes across east, west and central London (see below).

1987: The Great Workers' Struggle in South Korea

The workplace struggles that took place in 1987 occurred within the wider background of political reform. For thirty years South Korea had been ruled by a military dictatorship, and growing calls for democracy had echoed across the peninsula through the 1970s and early 80s.

Bahrain bus drivers strike

More than 50 bus drivers from the Cars Transport Corporation were on strike in Bahrain yesterday for higher pay.

The workers earn around BD200 per month, and were striking for a minimum 40% increase. Workers had originally demanded a rate of BD380, but during long negotiations be their union and employer, the demand has been reduced several times.

Bus driver rehired after co-workers wildcat

A driver for Coast Mountain Bus Company near Vancouver who was fired in late June is now back at work after his colleagues took wildcat strike action.

"The employee is back to work. I think both parties realized that this is something that should be resolved between the parties rather than go through the grievance process and through a third party," said Canadian Auto Workers Local 111 president, Don MacLeod.

Short wildcat strike on Preston buses

Bus drivers in Preston staged a 45 minute wildcat strike against management attacks on pay and conditions.

At 1:30pm bus services in the town ground to a halt as about 35 drivers walked off the job today (14th June). One driver said: "It is about management stabbing us in the back. They have cut our conditions. We have lost a lot of money."

The drivers returned to their routes at around 2:15pm, saying the matter was now in the hands of the unions.
