Reflections on the violence within Thurday's demonstrations

Accounts and discussions on the mugging and beating of some demonstrators in last Thursday's Paris anti-CPE march.

We've reported on the incidents of violence amongst those demonstrating in Paris in previous articles. What we understand to be a small number of youths robbing and attacking demonstrators in small gangs. In some incidents these gangs have been fighting one another.

BNP paedophile jailed

A former soldier and election candidate for the fascist British National Party in the Midlands has been jailed for 15 months after sending obscene images involving children to others.

Roderick Rowley (51), previously from Coventry, was also ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years after admitting at Birmingham Crown Court 14 charges of making indecent photos, four of distributing them and one charge of possessing an image for distribution.

BNP 'arsonist' in court

A prominent member of the right-wing group the British National Party has appeared before a Lincoln court charged with multiple counts of arson and criminal damage.

Stephen Bailey (41) is accused of setting fire to sheds, litter bins and a car as well as a spate of car vandalism in the city's High Street.

Bailey has not entered pleas to 35 charges of criminal damage and 19 charges of arson.

Bailey, of St Botolph's Crescent, Lincoln, is accused of setting fire to sheds, litter bins and a car between May and November 2003.
