Protests in China over pollution
Authorities closed a chemical plant after local residents in central Hunan Province protested against cadmium pollution, which killed two people and affected hundreds of others, media reported on Monday, 3rd of August.
The closure follows a number of recent high profile "mass incidents" which turned violent and prompted media criticism of officials' failure to respond quickly.
Two villagers near the Xianghe Chemical Factory, which had produced zinc sulfate for six years, died in May and June. Autopsies found high levels of cadmium in their bodies, the semi-official China News Agency said.

On the final day (11 February 2001) of the William Blake exhibition at the Tate Britain Gallery in London, 30 people gathered on the steps outside to reclaim Blake from 'the dead hand of capital, empire and state' and to denounce the corporate sponsors of the Blake exhibition, GlaxoSmithKline.

Saturday June 14th saw about 50 000 people turn out in Amsterdam for the March for Social Justice. The majority of people there were protesting against the increase in unemployment and social exclusion, they wanted a socialist Europe in which all would be included. So this demonstration was seen by them as an alternative to the Eurotop - the name given to the Euro-summit.

California homeless hold demonstration to demand accomodations
On July 2, 2009, hundreds of homeless Californians marched on the Sacramento Town Hall to demand "safe ground".
It has been about three months since city officials shut down a large "tent city" occupied by Sacramento's homeless people.
Now, some of the tent city's residents say they feel like refugees, with no place to go. They staged a loud demonstration Wednesday, in hopes of pressuring Sacramento officials to find them a new place to camp.

Cleaners of the PEKOP union alongside more than 1500 solidarity protesters took to the sizzling streets of Athens on Thursday 2/7 to protest against the decision of the district attorney to close the case of the assassination attempt against Konstantina Kouneva, the cleaner union's secretary last December by corporate thugs.
All Quiet On The French Front
Most of this was completed on March 26th 2006 at the height of the movement in France against the CPE, and then updated for the following 2 weeks or so as the movement flowed and ebbed. It inevitably expresses the optimism of the moment, with all its over-simplifications.

Nationwide, it's the biggest thing since May '68, though it's a long way from the social explosion of 38 years ago, which at that time was clearly the most intensive proletarian assault on class power since 1917- 21. It could die a sad death, but this will probably take some time.

Olympic site demonstration met with solidarity strike
Workers at the Total refinery at Lindsay have undertaken strike action in support of a demonstration in London for direct employment and against undercutting and subcontracting on construction projects.
Hundreds of building workers, electricians and workers in related trades assembled outside the Olympic construction site on Wednesday to call for jobs to be available to those in the local community, through direct employment on a PAYE basis and in line with agreed pay and conditions.
