2nd day of the 4th week in our dispute with Balfour Kilpatrick.

Again the resolve of the shop stood up to the rigours of standing all day on a picket line. We were in a jovial mood in not so jovial a situation, but we will remain strong and will see this through to the end.

Call for support as anti-Shell picket faces repression

Latest news from the struggle against Shell in the West of Ireland, as the state prepares to strike.

The month of September was the month Shell had chosen to re-take their refinery construction site in Ballinaboy, Mayo, in the west of Ireland. They failed.
The refinery has been shut down since July 2005 by pickets involving the local community and activists from Rossport Solidarity Camp.

Situation normal - Bangladesh in turmoil

The riots in Dhaka from Wednesday evening continuing through Thursday morning (see earlier report) protesting frequent electric power cuts, spread to various other areas of Bangladesh and continued on Friday.

Two hundred people, including police, were injured in Bangladesh as more riots and demonstrations have erupted in protest against regular interruptions to electricity supplies.

The nineteen hours of violent clashes began yesterday evening (Wednesday 27th).

More clashes in Bangladesh - the issue of energy

Textile workers in Narsingdi, central Bangladesh, yesterday fought police in protests against irregular power supply to their factory workplaces.

They are not paid for time lost to interruptions. Over 1,000 fought with officers as they laid seige to the electicity company offices, setting fire to company vehicles, 2 transformers and a circuit breaker. 50 workers were hurt as cops baton charged, fired rubber bullets and tear gas. 10 cops were also injured by thrown missiles.

The interviewee is an electrician who has worked for BK for over 20 years.

Why do you think Balfour Kilpatrick is withdrawing the 50p/hour at this point after thirty years?
Two Reasons:

1. In order to maintain their own commercial level of profitability.

Picket line update from Hunterston nuclear power station

The second week of industrial action at Hunterston nuclear power station began today. We present this report by one of the striking workers from today's picket line.

The 1st day of our 2nd week of industrial action took place today.

Our picket line was moved to the roundabout on the busy A78. This was under protest from ourselves, AMICUS the union, and the local police force against British Energy, who had threatened legal action against us for protesting on their land.
