Economic crisis and direct action in Iceland
Since early this winter, Iceland has been facing economic crisis. People are getting angry, some of them wanting back the “good old” prosperity, while others and hopefully the majority, are realizing the real cost of capitalism.
The three major business banks have been nationalized, putting their debt on the people’s shoulders. People have been losing their lifelong savings; loans have increased and are getting sky high (and for sure they already were high enough). 200 people lost their job every single day of November and more and more people are facing the threat of losing their houses.
Egyptian court sentences 22 to prison for Mahalla riots
An Egyptian state security court sentenced 22 people to between three and five years in jail on Monday for their part in riots which shook the Nile Delta in April.
The riots in the Nile Delta textile town of Mahalla el-Kubra, the worst in the country for many years, began as protests against sudden steep rises in the price of food. Three people were killed and more than 100 people wounded in two days of clashes with riot police.

Greece: Fears of murderous night after 'accidental death' report
More riots across Greece look likely tonight after it emerged that the coroner may record a verdict of accidental death over the shooting in the chest of 15-year-old Alexis Grigoropoulos – and militants fear that a reported mobilisation of fascist paramilitaries could mean more deaths.
It is yet to be officially confirmed, but a ballistics report has reportedly concluded that the fatal shot ricocheted off something before hitting Alexis. However trust in the police is low at this point, and such a conclusion will only serve to convince many that the police are closing ranks around their own, potentially sparking more anger.
Greek general strike to go ahead
The planned general strike for later today, 10 December is still scheduled to go ahead, but unions bowed to the government and called off protest marches amidst Greece's worst rioting in decades.
2.5 million workers in the GSEE and ADEDY general unions, comprising around half of Greece's total workforce are to strike today.
They are demanding an end to cuts in public spending and attacks on pay and pensions.
Greece's transport network in particular is set to grind to a halt, as many airlines have already cancelled all flights in and out of the country.

Over 500 rioted yesterday at a toy factory in Dongguan, on the Pearl River Delta in southern China, over pitiful severance payments handed out to 596 workers laid off this month.

New clashes between locals and riot police erupt in the south Corfu town of Lefkimi over the construction of open refuse dump.
