Taxi strikes in North and South East China
Taxi drivers in the northeast city of Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang Province, struck and staged sit-ins outside Communist Party and government offices, whilst in the southeast city of Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, a militant strike by cabbies got immediate results.
The strike in the north began on the 23rd of July over proposals to limit the length of operating rights, and continued at least until the 30th. Zhao Shiyuan, secretary general of Mudanjiang City Government, said the city government had to mobilize taxi drivers from neighboring cities to offer taxi services.
Taxi drivers strike in China
More than 5 000 taxi drivers Xining, a city in the western province of Qinghai, went on strike during the night of Saturday the 13th of June over new licensing regulations.
This was followed the next day with a sit-in protest in front of the municipal government headquarters attended by several hundred people, who dispersed at 3pm when officials promised to address the issue. However, although the number of strikers apparently halved on Sunday, protests have continued, with a second sit-in on Monday of a similar size to the first.
Cab drivers wildcat against management racism
At least 25 taxi drivers in Saskatoon, Canada, have been suspended by United Cabs after raising allegations of racism and discrimination by their employer at a demonstration Wednesday. The company denies the allegations and says it moved to lock out the employees for a wildcat strike.
Around 50 drivers, mostly of Pakistani descent, gathered Wednesday night at a parking lot near the airport to raise concerns about alleged verbal abuse by company managers and to protest the firing of a co-worker.

Birmingham cabbies in wildcat strike
Angry cabbies caused traffic chaos in Birmingham after they downed keys in a wildcat strike over space at the New Street Station rank.
More than 200 stopped working because they said police officers tried to fine five taxi drivers who were waiting on double yellow lines. Their vehicles blocked roads and held up motorists trying to get through the city yesterday lunchtime.
Taxi drivers strike in central China
Thousands of taxi drivers took to the streets in the city of Chongqing earlier this week for improved conditions.
The strike, which began on Monday, saw 9,000 of Chongqing's taxis taken out of service as drivers protested over conditions; including high fees charged by their companies, unfair competition from unlicensed cabs, and a shortage of fuel.

India: Mumbai taxi drivers strike against violence
Taxi drivers in Mumbai launched the wildcat on Thursday after the offices of the Bombay Taxi Union were attacked.
The strike which involved most of Mumbai's 55,000 taxi drivers was called off after two hours, after ministers made assurances over security. State home secretary Chitkala Zutshi also attempted to downplay the violence: "All miscreants will be dealt with severely. We mean to maintain law and order.
France: striking taxi drivers protest and block roads
Taxi drivers are launching strikes and protests against government plans to liberalise the sector.
In Paris hundreds of taxis have occupied the place de la République to protest against the report. In Marseille taxi drivers have picketed roads going into the city, causing long tailbacks. In the small town of Dieppe 16 of the town's 17 taxis were striking. The strike is also being well-observed in Cannes and other towns and cities across France.
