A few days ago, an article was published in the Croatian daily newspaper „Slobodna Dalmacija“[2] about a group of students from Split working at the „Broadway cinema“ who quit their jobs there and called for a boycott until they get payed.

1969: Revolution as personal and as theatre

Written in March 2001, this is essentially autobiographical, but gives a good flavour of the epoch (free concerts, street/political theatre, the beginning of squatting and the London Street Commune, skinheads v. long hairs, Schools Action Union, The Festival of Light, strikes, etc). It also contains some reflections on other aspects of theatre (e.g. Brecht).

1968, for all of those who wanted to live against a world without future, was a great year. But as almost always at that time, I was a late developer. It was 1969 before I got going.

1969 was good but wasn’t great: it seems useful to reflect on this period a bit, as a bit of contrast with the madness of today’s normality.

National Opera House occupied in Athens and turned into counterinformation and resistance base

Last week the National Opera House (Ethniki Lyriki Skini) was occupied by dancers renaming the historic Athens building "Insurgent People's . Opera". Since the Opera has been functioning as a free space for revolutionary workshops and forums in solidarity to K. Kouneva and the arrested insurgents of December, as well as against the police state and the culture of the Spectacle.

France: strike action continues at the Paris Opera

Workers at the Paris Opera have been striking since October 18th in defence of their pension regimes.

The strike has caused the cancellation of 17 performances and 8 have gone ahead in a reduced form. The strike is strongest amongst workers from the Sud union, and to a lesser extent FSU. These workers are in the majority amongst lighting and stage hands and as such have a strong position. The FO, CGT and CFDT unions have already agreed to negotiations with management.

Workers take protest to Parisian theatre

At 18.00 yesterday, a group of cultural, temporary workers, students and “Precaires” (workers in precarious or casual labour), penetrated the prestigious Chaillot National Theatre.

Newspaper Liberation reported the events occured at the Trocadero, in the chic 16th arrondissement of Paris for an indefinite occupation.
