The action at Edinburgh's Waverly station was taken in a dispute over the provision of cover for breaks. David Simpson, of Network Rail in Scotland, said the "deliberately disruptive, unprovoked action" was "completely unacceptable".

Ian MacIntyre, the RMT's regional organiser for Scotland, was reported as saying: "Our members took the action in the interests of safety.

The industrial action is set to take place next Thursday, and union leaders said today it will affect services "right across the board". About 8000 Unison members have voted by more than two-to-one in favour of the walk-out in protest at cuts and possible redundancies.

Weekend wildcat strikes hit Royal Mail in Edinburgh

The Daily Record today reported that staff at the processing centre launched the unofficial action on Friday night over working conditions.

Yesterday, Royal Mail bosses were meeting workers and union officials in a bid to resolve the dispute.

Around 1000 staff work at the automated processing centre at the Gyle.

Royal Mail bosses slammed the action as "unnecessary".

Just a quick report on our Informational picket at Starbucks in Edinburgh yesterday (Saturday 19th).

We (4 wobs, two supporters) chose our usual target - the High Street branch on the top of the Royal Mile.

The area was teeming with people as it's mid-Festival.

Edinburgh council tenants fighting privatisation speak

Tenants, trade unionists and councillors from around the country were set to attend a mass lobby of parliament on Wednesday of this week to protest against the government’s policy of handing council homes to private companies.

The lobby was called by Defend Council Housing (DCH), a national coalition of housing campaigns.
